www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCb1zN80C6A 🏀🏀 ROAD TO UMBC MPSSAA 2A BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP 🆚 (2) Lackey vs (1) Wicomico 📍UMBC, Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena 📝 Kmillz (MFVAllSportsNetwork)
The Second game of our day three coverage of the MPSSAA High School Basketball Championships landed us in an intense match up between the Lackey Chargers of Charles County and the Wicomico Indians (or as the say WiHi Tribe) of Wicomico County. It was already in progress in the first period when I came out from the media room. The Indians were up, 8-2. Points from them were adding and adding. The score had reached 22-9, however the Chargers began to make a run bringing the score to 24-18 by halftime. Second half, one of the alumni photographers told me Lackey would turn up the heat That is exactly what happened as one of their stars, #2 Gordon Malik got some quick steals for scores. Defensive pressure arose, and it was the Lackey Chargers with the lead now. Although their biggest lead was 7 points, the Indians brought the game to a tie by the end of fourth, 34-34.
Overtime was 4:00 minutes of more rumbling and wrestling between the teams. Being in the bonus first gave the Lackey the advantage leading to a 44-42 victory. TO BOTH TEAMS, just want to say you both put up a tremendous fight. Proud of the work you accomplished throughout the season and the successes you will achieve in the future. CONGRATS to the Chargers on achieving the ultimate goal of being tate champs. Proud of you and I am excited to see you win. CONGRATS to Coach Waller on your upcoming retirement, and to the WiHi tribe on a hard fought season. Keep shining.

Thanks to CSZScores, and the MPSSAA for your continued support and dedication to promoting positive values in athletics here and beyond.

MFV MVP - Lackey’s #2 Gordon Malik with 17 points, 7 steals, and 9 rebounds.

Lackey took home the biggest game of the season in an overtime nail-biter. Wicomico controlled most of the game early, building a strong lead and looking comfortable heading into halftime. But whatever was said in Lackey’s locker room clearly hit—because they came out with a completely different energy. Fueled by determination, Lackey stormed back from the deficit with relentless effort on both ends of the floor. Every possession mattered, and every player pushed themselves to the limit. At one point, the intensity was so high that a player was even seen throwing up in the trash can—yet still giving everything he had. That same grit showed up in a huge way from #2, who delivered an unbelievable performance. In just one half, he grabbed well over 10 rebounds, crashing the boards with nonstop effort. Despite not being the biggest player on the court, he played with the biggest heart, making his presence felt on every play. His impact didn’t go unnoticed. As the game went on, the crowd erupted into MVP chants that echoed through the gym—a moment every player dreams of. With all eyes on him, he rose to the occasion and helped lead Lackey to a hard-fought championship victory. Now, Lackey heads back to school not just as champions—but with a story they’ll be telling for years.

Seven Howard County teams advanced to the second round of regionals this weekend. The first round of regional games started and finished on Friday across all four MPSSAA classes. Four of the remaining Howard County teams used a first-round bye for an extra week of rest before the intensity of the playoffs ramp up. The other three teams prevailed in matchups against rival county teams. All of the Howard County teams are in the 2A and 3A classes. 2A: Glenelg, Hammond, River Hill Hammond holds the second seed in the West II bracket, standing ahead of the other two remaining teams. The Golden Bears pulled off a thrilling midseason comeback this year, posting an 8-4 record in 2026 after ending 2025 with a 45 record. Their opponent in this second round is the River Hill Hawks. 11-10 River Hill took care of business on Friday with a 65-47 win against 1-19 Wilde Lake. The Hawks will now hit the road to take on Hammond. In their last meeting, the Hawks won late and close in a 56-54 game. The Golden Bears and Hawks face off at 6:00 p.m. tonight. Glenelg are on the other wing of the bracket, coming off their upset win against Long Reach. Three weeks ago on Feb. 5, the Lightning comfortably beat Glenelg at Glenelg in a 67-57 game. The Gladiators appeared to have run out of gas with only one win in their prior eleven games. None of those games finished with a margin less than six points. Glenelg stunned everyone with a 68-62 road win to keep their playoff dreams alive. The path for a Gladiators miracle run will only get harder in the regionals’ second round. Their next opponent is a 12-5 Southern team that remained consistent throughout the entire season. Southern has not ceded an upset loss to a team with a lower winning percentage all season. Glenelg will try to become the story of the MPSSAA playoffs at 6:00 p.m. tonight. 3A: Atholton, Marriotts Ridge, Mt. Hebron, Oakland Mills Marriotts Ridge holds the top seed in North II and earned a first-round bye. Their first playoff opponent is a Franklin High School with momentum. They took down Howard in a thrilling 48-46 showdown, continuing their resurrection from an early-season 1-5 record. Marriotts Ridge will host the second round matchup at 6:00 p.m. tonight. South I number one seed Oakland Mills faces 10-11 Sherwood for its first playoff game. Sherwood routed Reservoir in the first round with a final score of 85-47. The Scorpions will look to bounce back from their county championship loss and regain their momentum for the playoffs. The two teams face off tonight at 6:00 p.m. Across the bracket, Atholton will prepare for a cross-country matchup against Mt. Hebron. The Vikings just secured their closest win of the season against Guilford Park, winning 59-58. They are 6-3 in their last nine and facing an Atholton squad that did not lose a single county game at home. Atholton and Mt. Hebron face off at 6:00 p.m. tonight.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIEToKrLlag 🏀🏀 OVERTIME EXTRAVAGANZA IN CARROLL COUNTY 🆚 Westminster x Manchester Valley 📝 Kmillz (MFVAllSportsNetwork) The beautiful drive out to upper Carroll County was a prelude to the amazing boys high school basketball we were about to witness. Walked inside Manchester Valley HS, one of the students shouted, “MillerFlow” and I waved back. This lovely greeting was like the stage was being set for a great matchup. Pregame, Westminster looked more than ready and the Mavericks had their game faces on. So let’s get right in to this event!!! 1st Period - This started out with a technical foul being carried out (I’m not sure what for, my assumption would be for roster issues. That is not fact). Manchester was able to strike first, and soon the score was piling up as their offensive front dropped 3 tres putting them on a 11-0 run. The Owls responded and began adding points. They too, dropped some three pointers. However, Mavs kept a sizable lead heading in the 2nd period, 27-19. 2nd Period - The Owls continued their attack, making Manchester’s lead smaller and smaller. Westerminster’s forward #23 Charlie Mollman had impressive dunk where pretty much no one was standing in his way, BOOM 💥!!!! Soon, the Owls other forward, #10 Logan Hoot, would add his dunking flare to the game. Manchester did not give up its fight, trying to get the ball inside having some successes with this. But Westminster now controlled the match, going in to the half off a buzzer beater by Mollman while he waved to Maverick student section, 44-40. 3rd & 4th Periods - This was now in favor of the Westminster Owls. BUT, the strength of the Mavs started to shine forth. Their key to setting off was shots made by their super star, #2 Colton Enderie. His passion just shined, driving to the hoop drawing fouls, dropping tres; he could simply not be stopped. Let us not though diminish the efforts of Maverick’s #4 Trevor Hottenstein, who brought the game in the 4th to a tie, 70-70. And yes, the Mavs whole squad, all contributed, shouts to them!!!! Overtime - This is where Manchester Valley took full advantage. The momentum shifted after several attempts and rebounds, their lead was sealed when Trevor dropped a 3. The Owls continued fighting until the end, as Manchester claimed victory in this Carroll County showdown, 81-74 MFV GAME MVP - Mavericks #2 Colton Enderie I saw Colton set a record dropping 50 or 51 points last night? Please let us know the correct points if you know. Thank you‼️
