Frederick High School pulled off an impressive win over Marriotts Ridge in the state quarterfinals. Franklin brought the energy and support, refusing to back down from the Mustangs’ home crowd. Family, friends, and even the cheerleaders helped shift the momentum as the boys battled on the court. In the end, Franklin held on for a hard-fought 2-point victory. Overall, it was a great game, with both teams showing determination and fighting until the final buzzer.

(SHOUTS to CSZScores, as I met their student ambassador. Hope you are successful in your new opportunities on the rise!!!) The cheerleaders for Frederick traveled down to support their Cadets joining alonside a big crowd of Cadets’s fans. BUT, the Mustang fans packed out the house as well. The Marriotts Ridge Student section arrayed in American colors as their theme for the night. It looked like a never ending cycle as the Ridge staff directed numbers of them over to the student section. What I didn’t expect was the intense and loud atmosphere on the horizon. The Cadets team came out clapping and showing they were ready to play 32 minutes of basketball. Mustangs had a cool vibe and the team was rocking some old school warm up uniforms. They looked completely focused and locked in. A huge battled was brewing in the midst of a western Howard County high school. 1ST HALF - The beginning quarter was a knock down drag out fight for some points to get on the board. Both teams displayed excellent defense, causing their offenses to really struggle getting open lanes to drive the ball closer inside for points. By the second quarter things started to pick up as the Mustangs held a fair lead of 7 going in to the half, 23-16. 2ND HALF - The Cadets began to fight back pulling the score between 3 points at one point. HOWEVER, it was last minutes of the 4th period that became critical. After listening to the echoes of loud voices all around, cheerleaders having their own little summersault routine wars, and student sections yelling at one another; this game was decided in the last two minutes being tied at 42-42. The Mustangs had put up quite a fight to stay in front. It was Frederick’s guard, #10 AJ Spencer who scored the final basket, leaving the Ridge only 5 seconds to either tie, or hit a long ranged three for the win. I gave Spencer the name Tricky Fingers, because he was creating critical turnovers leading up to these moments. Marriotts Ridge just didn’t see AJ coming at those pivotal times. CONGRATULATIONS to the FREDERICK CADETS, who pulled off an awesome 44-42 victory, and they advanced on to the Semifinal round in states. SO EXCITED FOR YOU CADETS. Keep that flame burning. MUCH LOVE to the MARRIOTTS RIDGE MUSTANGS, you guys played with fire, intensity, and passion. Proud of you guys. You are awesome. MFV MVP - #10 AJ Spencer, 8 points, and the go-ahead basket in the final seconds of the game.
Score is wrong. Linganore won 73-62
www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIEToKrLlag 🏀🏀 OVERTIME EXTRAVAGANZA IN CARROLL COUNTY 🆚 Westminster x Manchester Valley 📝 Kmillz (MFVAllSportsNetwork) The beautiful drive out to upper Carroll County was a prelude to the amazing boys high school basketball we were about to witness. Walked inside Manchester Valley HS, one of the students shouted, “MillerFlow” and I waved back. This lovely greeting was like the stage was being set for a great matchup. Pregame, Westminster looked more than ready and the Mavericks had their game faces on. So let’s get right in to this event!!! 1st Period - This started out with a technical foul being carried out (I’m not sure what for, my assumption would be for roster issues. That is not fact). Manchester was able to strike first, and soon the score was piling up as their offensive front dropped 3 tres putting them on a 11-0 run. The Owls responded and began adding points. They too, dropped some three pointers. However, Mavs kept a sizable lead heading in the 2nd period, 27-19. 2nd Period - The Owls continued their attack, making Manchester’s lead smaller and smaller. Westerminster’s forward #23 Charlie Mollman had impressive dunk where pretty much no one was standing in his way, BOOM 💥!!!! Soon, the Owls other forward, #10 Logan Hoot, would add his dunking flare to the game. Manchester did not give up its fight, trying to get the ball inside having some successes with this. But Westminster now controlled the match, going in to the half off a buzzer beater by Mollman while he waved to Maverick student section, 44-40. 3rd & 4th Periods - This was now in favor of the Westminster Owls. BUT, the strength of the Mavs started to shine forth. Their key to setting off was shots made by their super star, #2 Colton Enderie. His passion just shined, driving to the hoop drawing fouls, dropping tres; he could simply not be stopped. Let us not though diminish the efforts of Maverick’s #4 Trevor Hottenstein, who brought the game in the 4th to a tie, 70-70. And yes, the Mavs whole squad, all contributed, shouts to them!!!! Overtime - This is where Manchester Valley took full advantage. The momentum shifted after several attempts and rebounds, their lead was sealed when Trevor dropped a 3. The Owls continued fighting until the end, as Manchester claimed victory in this Carroll County showdown, 81-74 MFV GAME MVP - Mavericks #2 Colton Enderie I saw Colton set a record dropping 50 or 51 points last night? Please let us know the correct points if you know. Thank you‼️
Westminster walked away with an impressive victory over Urbana High School. The Owls came out strong on both ends of the court, building an early lead with sharp offense and tough defense. Although Urbana managed to cut into the margin early in the second quarter, Westminster quickly regained control. After a brief scoring slump, the Owls rediscovered their rhythm and extended their advantage once again. In the end, Westminster secured a solid home win, improving to 2-0 to start the season.
Roaders played against Tuscarora. Briefly, the scores of the first quarter are 5-Home to 17-Guest. Before halftime the score board showed 17-Home and 29-Guest. Third quarter's scores were 30-Home and 48-Guest. With an already significant lead from the beginning, Tuscarora won the Varsity Basketball game with the final scores of 42-Brunswick to 59-Tuscarora.
📣🏀🏀1000 POINT HOOPS AT THE LIONS DEN: We popped out, on a Saturday, to Howard High School for some boys varsity hoops: Westminster Owls vs Howard Lions. Howard pretty much dominated the game, even though the Owls were able to put points on the board. As the game proceeded, we discovered seniors Lion’s PG, GRIFFIN GARNER was looking to reach 1000pts in his career. Glad we were able to capture that moment. BIG SHOUTS to both the OWLS & LIONS. Keep grinding and learning as y’all season progresses. Final Score: OWLS - 45 LIONS - 82 👀 MFV U📺🔗⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTtNIM4jHxo

Since coach Emonte Hill Sr. took over as head basketball coach of the Frederick Cadets, they’ve had their eyes set on a championship. Coming into the 2024 campaign, it had been 42 years since the program hoisted a Maryland state championship trophy. After a complete team effort against Whitman in the Class 4A state championship, that number shrank to zero. Frederick was loaded with talent and was carried by a big three of seniors Elwyne Wordlaw, David Dorsey, and Ivan Quijada. Quijada splashed five 3-pointers, four of which came in the first half. He finished the night with 17 points, six rebounds, and four steals. Dorsey finished with 14 points and eight rebounds. Wordlaw gives all the credit to coach Hill for the teams’ success. “We could get selfish at times, but Coach Hill did a great job of making us play team basketball.” After a 10-0 Whitman first-quarter run, the Cadets responded with a 31-6 run of their own across the rest of the first half. The rest was history as Frederick controlled the pace of the game in the second half, securing a 74-49 victory. This squad was loaded with talent, and the team was hungry. “The entire season we thought we were the best team in the state. Frederick High hadn’t won a state championship since 1982, so to do that for our city felt amazing,” Wordlaw said. Although Wordlaw is graduating and taking his talents to Shepherd University, he has confidence in Coach Hill and next year’s team. “Coach Hill does such a great job that by the time the season comes around I think they will be great.” Frederick will look to continue the positive momentum into next season and extend their 15-game winning streak.
