Zach Hommey via VNN Williamsport HS – The Walkersville High School Boys Soccer Team earned a big 3-1 win on the road at Williamsport High School, extending their win streak to three. After a back-and-forth first 15 minutes of play, the Lions found themselves with possession in the final third. Eli Glickman sent a ball across the box, finding the foot of Nathan Ramsay. Ramsay hit a one-time shot past the keeper and into the back of the net to put Walkersville on the board. Late in the first half, Landry Schweikart threw a ball into the foot of Eli Glickman. Glickman dribbled across the face of the Williamsport defense, finding a seam and blasting a shot into the upper corner of the goal. The Lions’ defense was strong and saw out the remaining time, and the Lions took a 2-0 lead into halftime. Williamsport got a goal back early in the second half, but Walkersville did not stop playing. Gilberth Argueta was all over the field for Walkersville, working back defensively and getting forward. Argueta was rewarded late in the game when he got in behind the defense and was taken down, earning a penalty kick for the Lions. Nathan Ramsay stepped up to the ball and confidently put it in the back of the net for his second goal of the day, sealing the 3-1 victory. Kollin Purgason was a wall in goal for Walkersville! He finished the game with 12 saves. The Lions will be back in action on Thursday night in their regular-season finale when they take on South Carroll HS! After lightning struck three minutes in, the game went into a weather delay. After the delay, the Walkersvile High School Boys Soccer Team came out ready to play in the rainy conditions. Sean Bosco and Gilberth Argueta looked to attack and put the Lions ahead early but were unable to find the back of the net. Walkersville continued to push all half but were denied a goal and took a 0-0 tie into halftime. The Lions looked motivated to start the second half. They looked to attack the Smithsburg backline early and often. They were rewarded 5 minutes into the half when Walkersville was awarded a free kick to the side of the box. Joshua Bolanos stepped up and sent in a beautiful service that found the head of Eli Glickman. Glickman placed the ball into the back of the net to put the Lions on the board. Walkersville wasn’t finished. The lead was extended to two when Cash Moots picked off a pass and sent a shot on goal that spun away from the keeper and found the back of the net. Eli Glickman was back at it again midway through the second half, when he stepped into a one-time finish and blasted the ball past the keeper for his second goal of the night. The whole Walkersville backline was solid from start to finish, limiting the Smithsburg attack all game. Kollin Purgason started the game in goal for the Lions and was not forced to make a save. Brady Barnes stepped into play and was strong in net for Walkersville. Barnes finished with two saves. Walkersville will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Brunswick High School. The Walkersvile High School Boys Soccer Team came out focused and motivated from the first whistle. The Lions weathered a storm of physical play from the Knights and kept a strong defensive shape throughout the first half. Walkersville looked to attack the Middletown back line, generating several chances, but were denied a goal as the first half came to an end tied 0-0. To start the second half, the Lions once again weathered an early push from the Knights, but then settled into a strong period of attacking play. The Middletown keeper did well to save a great opportunity taken on goal by Nathan Ramsay. Middletown did find their way in behind the Walkersville defense and were awarded a penalty kick midway through the second half. Kollin Purgason dove the correct way, covering the goal and watching the ball sail just over the cross bar. The score remained 0-0 with 20 minutes left to play. The Lions continued to press forward and were rewarded when Nathan Ramsay picked off a pass just past half field. Ramsay picked his head up and sent a long shot over the hands of the Middletown keeper and into the back of the net, giving Walkersville a 1-0 lead. From that point on the Lions battled defensively to deny any attacks from the Knights and sealed the shutout victory! Kollin Purgason was strong in goal for the Lions. He finished with 4 saves in the game, including a huge save in the final five minutes to seal the shutout. Walkersville will be back in action on Thursday when they take on Smithsburg HS at home. Walkersville HS – The Walkersvile High School Boys Soccer Team came out with energy from the first whistle, looking to place balls into the attacking third and get in behind the FSK defense. In the fourth minute of play, Sean Bosco sent a well-placed corner kick into the box that found the foot of Eli Glickman. Glickman was composed in front of goal and buried the ball into the back of the net to give Walkersville a 1-0 lead. The Lions continued to press, creating several chances, but were unable to find a second goal and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. The rainy weather and slick surface created problems for both teams in the second half. After a stretch of back-and-forth play, Walkersville found themselves with a few quality chances at goal but were unable to find the back of the net. Tough and organized defensive play from the Lions limited the FSK attack and sealed the 1-0 win! Kollin Purgason did what he had to in goal for the Lions, finishing with 2 saves in the game. Walkersville will be back in action Thursday night when they take on Clear Spring High School on the road.
