Last night, the Oakdale Bears went on to win their 3rd consecutive State Championship. The last time this was accomplished was by Winston Churchill High School from 2017 to 2020. To start the 1st period, the Bears lead the scoring with a goal from Senior Micah Venezie with an assist from Senior Gavin Timberlake and Sophomore Christian Swanson. The Urbana Hawks would take this personally, going on to score 3 goals in 4 minutes. The Hawks began their reign of terror with a goal from Sophomore Andrew Browning-Elam with an assist from his older brother, Senior Matthew Browning-Elam, and Senior Zach Thayer. The Hawks would go straight back on the attack with Sophomore Alex Cheves putting one in the back of the cage to put them up 2-1, assists again for M. Browning-Elam and Thayer. Cheves would put another on the board putting up the Hawks 3-1. This goal gave M. Browning-Elam his third assist of the game in just the 1st period. Things weren’t looking good for the Bears, but with 6 minutes remaining in the 1st period, Urbana was called on a hooking penalty. This gave the perfect opportunity, allowing for the 1st team MSHL All State Senior LT Farley to put one past the Urbana goalie, putting the Bears just one goal behind going into the 2nd period. In the 2nd period, just about 4 minutes in, Sophomore Chase Layer would put in his own goal, tying up the game 3-3, and giving assists to Junior Mason Macera and Senior Tyler Yuhas. After this, the 3rd period would go silent with only an interference penalty against the Hawks. After the end of the 3rd period, both overtime (OT) periods came down strictly to defense. Both goalies, Charles Forino for the Bears and Eric Metzler for the Hawks, were not giving in an inch of room for error. With around just 6 minutes left in the 2OT period, the Senior 6’7 defenseman Rowe flicked a shot into traffic, inevitably ending up in the cage. The Bears' bench and student section exploded into roars of cheers, looking into potentially the start of creating a dynasty for Oakdale Hockey. Congratulations to the Bears on completing the three-peat!

This Friday, the Maryland Student Hockey League (MSHL) State Finals will be taking place, featuring the Oakdale Bears and the Urbana Hawks, who are both from Frederick, Maryland. With both teams coming from the Monocacy Valley, it only seems fitting they would meet in the state finals. Oakdale is coming off back-to-back state championships and looks to complete the three-peat. They also look to redeem themselves after facing an 8-4 and 4-2 loss to Urbana earlier in the season. Urbana wants revenge after losing to Oakdale last season 6-1 in the State Semifinals and faced an early 4-2 loss in the season from the Bears. Oakdale looks to rely on the 1st team MSHL All State Senior defenseman LT Farley, while Urbana will look to their 1st team MSHL All State Senior forward Matthew Browning-Elam. The game is at The Gardens Ice House, Laurel, Maryland at 7:40pm, where a Frederick team will be crowned champions. I won’t stop spreading my message even if you stop me. 4-0 loss is an embarrassment deal with it.

Josh Ventura carries the team and the whole Oakdale backline is useless and TJ is better because of diversity which Oakdale lacks. Maybe train instead of acting tough
