North Hagerstown (19-1) secured their first three-peat in program history, sweeping Thomas Wootton in a final that highlighted a season where the Hubs lost only one set throughout all county and state competitions. Senior Bailey Doolan, who tore her ACL in the preseason, made a memorable return to serve late in the third set, capping off a remarkable season with both a championship and an appearance in the final. Overall, it was a fantastic season for Washington County volleyball!

Former Penn State Nittany Lion Aaron Brooks secured Bronze in his first trip to the Olympics. Brooks opened strong with a 4-3 win over top-seeded Azamat Dauletbekov of Kazakhstan, followed by an 11-1 victory over Japan’s Hayato Ishiguro in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Bulgaria’s Mogamad Eldarovitch took Brooks down in the final seconds after falling behind early in the match. Brooks would go on to win the Bronze Medal match after defeating Javrail Shapiev 5-0. The medal is the first for Brooks, and he will look to bring home gold in 2028.

Hagerstown native Aaron Brooks is allergic to losing. The North Hagerstown graduate was a four-time NCAA national champion in college at Penn State and was named the Hodge Trophy winner as the nation’s top college wrestler. Brooks defeated reigning Olympic champion David Taylor in the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials to secure his spot in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Brooks advanced to the finals by going undefeated in his bracket, while Taylor received a bye until the final. In the challenge bracket, Brooks defeated Connor Mirasola in the quarterfinals, then took down Alex Dieringer in the semifinals. In his final challenge bracket match, he took down Zahid Valencia 7-6 after trailing late. Brooks stepped up when the lights were the brightest, and never trailed against Taylor. He won 2-0 in the best-of-three series. Brooks is set to compete in Paris on August 8-9.
