West — Football standings (2026-W40)
Liberty High School 23 - 20 Manchester Valley High School

2026 has not gotten off to the start that Randallstown football has wanted, but they broke through in a big way in week four, avenging a 2025 regular season loss, earning their first win of the season in a 32-22 win over Hereford. Early in the first, the Hereford defense recovered a fumble at Randallstown’s 35-yard line, setting up Yale commit Reed Shilling to run it in on a jet sweep, putting the Bulls ahead. Randallstown immediately responded, returning the ensuing kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown, but a failed two-point try kept them down by a point. Four minutes into the second, Randallstown connected on a deep shot to an open receiver for a 55-yard receiving touchdown, and after a successful two-point conversion this time, they led Hereford 14-7. That lead was then extended on a six-yard rushing touchdown with three minutes to play, making it a 20-7 Randallstown lead at halftime. The Rams continued to grow their lead into the third quarter. Early in the quarter on second and four from the Hereford 15, Randallstown completed another touchdown drive with a 15-yard rushing touchdown. After the score, the Rams fell to 1/4 on two-point conversion attempts, as the try was thrown out of bounds. Hereford finally responded with their first touchdown of the game as quarterback Brandon Zetlmeisl threaded the needle through two Randallstown defensive backs for a 25-yard touchdown, making it a 26-14 game after three. On the second play of the fourth quarter, Randallstown extended their lead with a 73-yard rushing touchdown from No. 0, putting the game on ice. Reed Shilling caught a 15-yard touchdown later in the quarter, and then completed the octopus on a run up the middle. Shilling’s octopus would be the final points this game had as Tim Brown secured his first win as Randallstown’s head coach, beating Hereford 32-22. The Rams will look to improve to 2-3 next week as they’ll hit the road for the first time since week one, traveling to Catonsville to face the Comets. Meanwhile, Hereford, now 1-3 and on a two-game losing streak, will look to bounce back against Parkville at home on October 2.

Coming into the game, Randallstown was coming off a dominant 36-0 win at home against the New Town Titans, while Milford Mill took down the Woodlawn Warriors 55-6. In the first quarter following a Randallstown punt, Milford Mill’s Mi’cah Williams and Damon Ferguson Jr. both ripped off double-digit yard runs, bringing the Millers to the Randallstown 30. The drive was capped off when junior Deonte Ross got the ball into the end zone. Following a successful PAT, the Millers lead 7-0 early. Randallstown’s next drive began with the ball moving steadily, but was intercepted by TJ Turner who brought the ball back to the 50-yard line. On the next play, Mi’cah Williams found Amauri Patterson deep for a score. On their next drive, the Rams turned it over on towns, but Milford Mill threw an interception, taken away by #7 from Randallstown. Milford Mill got the ball back after Randallstown did not score, and ended their drive with a 25-yard rushing touchdown by Dejuan Nelson. After failing to convert the 2-point try, the Millers now led 19-0. With under a minute to go in the first half, Amauri Patterson picked up his second touchdown of the half from ten yards out. Owen Newburns ran into the end zone on the two-point try, giving Milford Mill a commanding 27-0 lead going into halftime. The majority of the third quarter went by uneventfully, until the final two minutes. With under a minute to go in the quarter, Randallstown’s #11 recovered a Milford fumble, but immediately after that, Jordan Ford intercepted the Randallstown quarterback’s second pick of the day. After moving the ball a bit up-field, Dejuan Nelson broke free, scoring from 48-yards out to give the Millers as 34-0 lead. Before the quarter came to a close, following Randallstown’s solid kickoff return, #3 for the Rams had a deep rushing touchdown of his own, this one from 40 yards away. After a failed two-point conversion, Milford Mill’s lead was slightly cut, now leading 34-6. Milford Mill proceeded to open the fourth quarter with a 1-yard rushing touchdown, and following Mi’cah Williams finding Amauri Patterson for the two-point conversion, the Millers had 42. A solid kick return set the Rams up well for a quick two minute drive to get into the red zone. With eight minutes left to play, #24 scored the second touchdown of the game for his team, marking just the second time this season that Milford Mill has given up double-digit points. After a failed two-point conversion, the Millers got the ball back. Very quickly, Mi’cah Williams found Amauri Patterson, this time for 55-yards, marking Patterson’s third touchdown of the game and the end of the scoring in this contest. Milford Mill improved to 8-0 after taking down the Randallstown Rams 48-12. With just one week left in the regular season, the Millers will host Owings Mills next week while the Rams will travel to Franklin to take on the 6-2 Indians.

Coming into the game, both teams were 2-1 in the regular season, with Randallstown taking down Woodlawn and Hereford defeating Kenwood last week. With help from two Bulls’ penalties, the Rams found themselves in Hereford territory on their first drive of the game. On fourth down from the Hereford 29, Randallstown’s quarterback took off, scrambling all the way to the end zone to put his team up by six points early. During their first drive of the game, Hereford converted one third and one fourth down before Ja’Quan Burton punched it in for a touchdown of their own from three yards out. Following an encroachment penalty, the Bulls attempted the fake PAT. The holder, quarterback Griffin Walter, threw a pass into the end zone, giving Hereford an 8-6 lead. Just 90 seconds later, the quarterback unloaded a deep pass down the right sideline for a 65-yard score of their own. After failing the two-point conversion, the Rams led 12-8 just three and a half minutes into the second quarter. On their next drive, the Bulls had a huge play of their own when Griffin Walter threw the ball over thirty yards downfield to Reed Shilling to bring the team twenty-five yards from taking the lead. Just three plays later, Shilling put his team ahead with a three-yard receiving touchdown. After kicking the PAT, Hereford led 15-12, the game’s score going into halftime. Randallstown got off to a quick start in the second half. After a quick three-and-out from Hereford, the Rams ripped a 67-yard run on their first offensive play of the half, bringing the Rams inside the ten-yard line. Despite the field position, the Bulls’ defense held strong, stopping the Rams from scoring on a fourth-and-goal from the two on a tackle-for-loss by Ja’Quan Burton. Following a Bulls drive that ended in a punt, Randallstown’s third play of their second drive of the half resulted in a 57-yard catch and run, setting the team up inside the fifteen. Once again, though, the Hereford defense stepped up to the challenge. Reed Shilling picked up a sack for a loss of nine before Chase Strugil intercepted the next pass in the end zone to end the third quarter. Following the interception, the Bulls drove 79 yards down the field, aided by a 39-yard run from Burton to set the Bulls up at the one-yard line with a chance to put the game away. Trying to end the game with a touchdown, running back Brad Chelden had the ball stripped out. The ball was recovered by the Rams and returned to their own 20-yard line. After that play, the Rams' offense was unable to score. Hereford got the ball back and held on until the clock hit zero. Hereford won the game with a final score of 15-12. Griffin Walter went 4/9 with 47 passing yards in the game, while Ja’Quan Burton was Hereford’s leading rusher with 117 yards in eighteen attempts with one touchdown. In Week 5, the 3-1 Bulls will travel to Parkville to take on the 2-2 Knights, while the Rams are scheduled to host the 0-4 Catonsville Comets.
Hereford and Randallstown had a competitive game yesterday. (8/26/25) Most of the action was during the first quarter where both teams played amazing offensive. Into the second quarter, the game became defensive as very few offensive drives were successful. Hereford hopes to come back next week to add another win to their record. www.instagram.com/p/DPF4s6zDDYX/
Christian Benford’s journey to the NFL has been anything but conventional. Hailing from Randallstown, Maryland, Benford was largely under-recruited coming out of Randallstown high, despite an impressive high school career that included 17 interceptions and recognition as All-Metro and All-County in his senior year. Despite these accolades, he didn’t earn a national ranking, making his path to collegiate and especially professional football a challenging one. Undeterred, Benford enrolled at Villanova University, whose football program is in the NCAA’s second division. His collegiate career quickly took off as he continued to improve year after year. In his freshman season, he made an immediate impact, earning the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Rookie of the Year award and third-team All-CAA honors after totaling 49 tackles and five interceptions. His performance only got better as his career progressed. By his junior and senior seasons, Benford earned first-team All-CAA honors and finished his senior year with seven interceptions and 18 pass breakups. Benford's hard work paid off in 2022 when he was selected in the sixth round of the NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. Despite his draft status, Benford’s resilience and strong performance in training camp earned him a starting role, where he outperformed a first-round pick to secure his spot on the field. His rookie year was marred by injuries, limiting him to just nine games. However, by his sophomore season, Benford had recovered and started in 14 games. Unfortunately, another injury prevented him from playing in the Bills' divisional playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. In 2023, Benford has been a key contributor for the Bills, starting 15 games and recording two interceptions. Now, as the Bills prepare for a showdown against his hometown team to secure a spot in the AFC Championship, Benford's story is one of resilience, dedication, and seizing every opportunity to perform.

In a hard-fought battle, Randallstown's football was defeated by Middletown 7-3 in the 2A/1A State quarterfinals. Randallstown entered this game avenging their regional loss against Forest Park in the previous season. The weather conditions were far from ideal, with cold temperatures, winds, and rain all playing a role in the game’s outcome. In those conditions, controlling the line of scrimmage and avoiding turnovers was the key to victory. Both teams showcased stout defenses throughout the game, and it was clear that only a handful of plays would decide the winner. Senior Joe Frizzell of Middletown proved to be the difference-maker. He scored the game's lone touchdown with a 4-yard run in the second quarter and then sealed the victory with an interception in the fourth quarter, allowing the Knights to run out the clock. While the Rams were disappointed with the outcome, their progress over the past two years is undeniable. After a difficult 2022 season where they won only one game, Randallstown has turned things around dramatically. Reaching the state quarterfinals after being eliminated in the regional tournament last year signifies another step forward. Looking ahead, the Rams are determined to build on this momentum and continue their rise next year. With a promising foundation in place, they will aim for even greater success next year, hoping to make a deeper playoff run and challenge for a state title.
