Zach Hommey via VNN Williamsport HS – The Walkersville High School Boys Soccer Team earned a big 3-1 win on the road at Williamsport High School, extending their win streak to three. After a back-and-forth first 15 minutes of play, the Lions found themselves with possession in the final third. Eli Glickman sent a ball across the box, finding the foot of Nathan Ramsay. Ramsay hit a one-time shot past the keeper and into the back of the net to put Walkersville on the board. Late in the first half, Landry Schweikart threw a ball into the foot of Eli Glickman. Glickman dribbled across the face of the Williamsport defense, finding a seam and blasting a shot into the upper corner of the goal. The Lions’ defense was strong and saw out the remaining time, and the Lions took a 2-0 lead into halftime. Williamsport got a goal back early in the second half, but Walkersville did not stop playing. Gilberth Argueta was all over the field for Walkersville, working back defensively and getting forward. Argueta was rewarded late in the game when he got in behind the defense and was taken down, earning a penalty kick for the Lions. Nathan Ramsay stepped up to the ball and confidently put it in the back of the net for his second goal of the day, sealing the 3-1 victory. Kollin Purgason was a wall in goal for Walkersville! He finished the game with 12 saves. The Lions will be back in action on Thursday night in their regular-season finale when they take on South Carroll HS! Walkersville got goals from Isabel Vanderau and Addie McAllister. Eva Nalvarte added an assist. Goalkeeper Paige Miller had the shutout with 6 saves.
Ann Kehr threw a long touchdown pass of 60 yards in the final minute of the game to Emma Norris for the game tying touchdown followed by a QB sneak for the 1 point conversion. Clear Spring snuck out a victory behind a stifling defense that had 3 interceptions. 1 interception by Saemyriah Grimes and 2 by Kayiah Evans. Saemyriah had the final interception of the game that sealed the game score of Clear spring 7 Williamsport 6.
The boys travled to Williamsport and after a long bus ride, they were able to secure a 5-0 victory. The boys had a clean sweep starting at 1st singles. Sid Parandapalli won his match 6-4 6-0. At 2nd singles, Evan Boledovic won his match 6-1 6-0. At 1st doubles, Adi Gujalwar and Lucas Munro won thier match 6-1 6-1. At 2nd doubles, Henry Van Orden and Ryan Abotsi won thier match 6-2 6-0. The Lions win a tough battle vs Williamsport GoGo Ogwulu had 2 hits (single and a double) 2 RBI's and 2 stolen bases. Parker Newton collected 2 hits and 2 RBI's for the Lions Ian Gensits, Max Birth, and Colton Amoriell each had 1 hit in the contest. Garrison Abrecht had a hit and scored 3 runs Wyant New started on the bump going 5 innings and giving up only 2 runs on 2 hits and striking out 2 The Lions play the Tuscarora Titans on 4/9
Walkersville fell behind 16-5 after first quarter but fought back back and lead by 4 after the third quarter. Williamsport's hot shooting from outside helped the Wildcats to secure a win. Liyana Ali-Goukoye has 12 points & 8 rebounds Addison Boram finished with 12 points ts and 5 steals. Aayana Teasley finished with 7 steals and Mia Ogg 8 points/5 rebounds.
Walkersville came up just short in a hard fought defensive battle tonight vs Williamsport 32-30. Liyana Ali-Goukoye had 9 points to lead the Lions. Addie Boram had 7 points & 5 steals. Walkersville won JV game 22-20. Anessa Ali-Goukoye had 9 points.
In a matchup between the two teams in the state with the most volleyball championships, Williamsport took the 2A state title with a 3-1 set victory over Williamsport. Williamsport and finalists Centennial were the seven and eight seeds in the tournament, comfortably beating the one and two seeds on their way to the final. The Wildcats were able to hold off a surge in the third set by Centennial, winning the decisive fourth set 25-14.
Walkersville received goals by Melissa Hansen, Kennedy Conley and Emily Coleman. Assists by Leah Atadika, Jenny Gessner and Kennedy Conley. Goalkeepers Paige Miller and Ethel Wright combined for the shutout.
