Springdale Prep and Archbishop Spalding (ASHS) delivered one of the most intense matchups of the night, with Prep pulling away late in overtime for a 71–69 victory after four tightly contested quarters. First Half ASHS set the tone early, controlling the pace throughout the first half. Strong defensive effort and timely buckets allowed Spalding to take a 31–26 lead into halftime, keeping Springdale Prep on its heels and forcing tough possessions. After Halftime Coming out of the break, Springdale Prep responded with increased pressure on both ends. ASHS still held a narrow advantage heading into the fourth quarter at 40–39, but momentum began to slip. With the flow slowing, #11 Braxton Bogard was reinserted and immediately brought energy back into the game, helping ASHS regain rhythm as the intensity rose. On the other side, Springdale Prep’s #10, along with #4 and #1, pushed the tempo and kept constant pressure on ASHS, creating scoring opportunities and forcing the defense to adjust. Fourth Quarter The fourth quarter was a grind. ASHS guard Nash Avery (#23) was locked in defensively, making life difficult for Prep late and setting the tone in crunch time. With under two minutes remaining, Springdale Prep’s #1 went down with an injury and had to be carried off the floor, silencing the gym momentarily. Despite the setback, regulation ended tied, sending the game into overtime. Overtime Springdale Prep came into overtime with urgency. #10 stepped up in the biggest moment, knocking down a clutch three to swing momentum. ASHS answered right back as Avery (#23) attacked the rim for a powerful dunk, keeping Spalding within striking distance. Prep’s #4 then showcased deep-range confidence, hitting timely shots as both teams traded blows. A late three by Spalding cut the deficit, but Prep’s execution down the stretch proved decisive.

These teams had already played each other with the Cavaliers winning by two points back in early December. 1st Period - The game began with a very physical start, both teams struggling to get a bucket due to tough defense and block shots. But the Gaels led the period 8-4. 2nd Period - The scoring picked up when Spalding’s (#3) Moe Loregan and (#22) Nash Avery by a few And 1 plays, and dunks by Nash For MSJ, numbers 31, 5 and 1 stood out with some clean 3’s . But the Gaels still held their lead, 23-25, going in to halftime. 3rd Period - The period started with MSJ’s (#1) leading the charge with some tough layups, 3 pointers, and rebounds to increase the lead. Still scoring from Moe kept Spalding in the game. The end of the 3rd, MSJ still ahead 39-36. 4th Period - Gaels (#1) made plays again with (#12) hitting a three . MSJ used Spalding’s broken shot clock to their advantage (Note: One of the shot clocks was acting improperly so the school decided not to use a shot clock in the game) by draining the clock with ball movement and long extended plays. This caused the Cavaliers to have to foul. Spalding attempted a late comeback but it was unsuccessful as MSJ would get revenge from their first match to win 59-53. Game MVP MSJ’s (#1) Ace Valentine.

The Flyers kept it close with big defense stops but Spalding’s #22 Nash A, and #11 Braxton B kept the the flow. 2nd Period - Spalding pushed forward their lead by a couple viscous dunks from Nash Avery, 3 pointers by #3 Moe L, and couple others contributing on offense. The Cavaliers were able leave out of the half with a 34-19 lead 3rd Period - PGCA started off with a 8-0 run to open the quarter pulling them closer to Spalding and causing them to call for a quick timeout. After a couple shots from #12 on the Flyers brought it to a 6 point game mid 3rd. Spalding was still able to still keep control but PGCA Flyers were clearly fighting back with the score being 42-40. 4th Period - With the quarter beginning, PGCA started off on a 12-1 run containing Nash Avery from scoring. And with some added big plays by the Flyers’ #4, they went up 8 point with 3 mins to go. Ten Maryland student-athletes officially signed to play for the University of Maryland last week. The men’s basketball, men’s lacrosse, women’s soccer and women’s lacrosse teams each announced new players who will join their respective squads next year. Men’s Basketball: Baba Oladotun signed later than the other players listed and boasted the most closely followed commitment of a Maryland athlete this cycle. He had narrowed his selection to four possible schools, deciding between Arkansas, Georgetown, Kentucky and Maryland. The James Hubert Blake High School senior posted a strong season last year with 22.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. The Bengals won 21 of their 23 games, including the playoffs, and beat every school outside of Sherwood High School, which gave them their lone regular-season loss and playoff loss. Oladotun’s commitment made it three straight years where the University of Maryland landed a five-star recruit in men’s basketball, following Derik Queen and Darius Adams. He will try to power James Hubert Blake past Sherwood this winter. Women’s Soccer: Morgan Shannon, a senior at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, finished her high school career with a Maryland All-State first team selection this season. The Falcons made the WCAC championship but lost to St. John’s College High School. Shannon will be one of two Maryland natives to play in the All-American game in December. Greyson Tischer, a midfielder for Notre Dame Prep, will join Shannon on the 2025 East All-American Team. The Blazers lost in the semifinals to 12-2 Mercy High School, but the senior captain enjoyed another strong season for the 6-3-1 squad. A hat trick against Calvert Hall High School highlighted her senior campaign. Daryn Barnes, a senior at the Friends School of Baltimore, saw her season end early after an ACL tear, according to her Instagram page. She explained that the University of Maryland stuck out during her commitment process. “I chose Maryland because it's my home. The moment I stepped onto campus: The energy, competition, and commitment to be better everyday was everything that I was looking for,” Barnes said. Men’s Lacrosse: Brady Mollot, an attacker at Archbishop Spalding High School, will continue a family legacy at the University of Maryland. His father, Mike Mollott, played for the team from 2000-2003. The Cavaliers had an 11-1 regular season record last season and Mollot will look to take the team further in the playoffs this spring. Bryce Barrett, a long stick midfielder at Boys' Latin School of Maryland, lost to Mollot’s Cavaliers in the playoffs last season, but he earned an All-State honorable mention of his own. The three-star recruit, according to Inside Lacrosse, stood out as a Crabs Lacrosse Club player, which is where he played for the past seven years. Reid Powell, a goalie for Loyola Blakefield, saw his team’s season end in a 9-5 loss to Barrett and the Lakers last May. His defense propelled the Dons forward all year, holding opposing teams to single-digit scores in seven of ten regular-season games. Loyola Blakefield won all of those matchups and will hope for more elite work from Powell in his senior season. Drew Demarinis, a midfielder at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, helped the Falcons post a 13-4 record last season. In a July 22 scouting report, Inside Lacrosse described what differentiates him from other players. “Gains separation in open field like few others, and he wills his way to get that special shot unleashed in creative and tough ways,” they said. Women’s Lacrosse: Cayden Reese, an attacker at Maryvale Preparatory School, already has a close relationship with the University of Maryland. Her mother, Cathy Reese, is the team’s head coach and has the most wins in program history. The younger Reese is the number one player on Inside Lacrosse’s class of 2026 rankings. She will play for back-to-back championships this spring. Kit Laake, a defender at the McDonogh School, is the top-ranked player in the class of 2026 at her position, according to Inside Lacrosse. The five-star recruit earned a spot on the Baltimore Sun’s All-Metro team for her role in the Eagles’ 9-1 record last season. She will be one of four team captains next spring.

🏈🏈 A NEW ERA ARISES ON NEW CUT RD 🆚 St. Mary’s vs. Spalding 📍Severn, Maryland Archbishop Spalding HS GAME RECAP A new era is on the rise at a catholic high school on New Cut Road,; an era following one started 4 years ago by University of Maryland freshman QB, Malik Washington. This new age was born out of Archbishop Spalding High School. And when we arrived, you could sense we were walking in to greatness. There was an opponent from another wonderful school in Annapolis looking to stop the new era, the St. Mary’s Saints. They had a serious warmup session, looking confident they could secure a victory on Whittles field. The stage was set, let’s discover how this panned out. 1ST QTR - The Cavaliers won the toss electing to receive the kick in the second half. St. Mary’s returned the opening kickoff with a little trickery, lateral passed the ball to the other returner which got them a little pass the 30.yard line. A penalty on the Cavaliers helped a little but the drive ended in a punt. For the Cavaliers, their drive started well, until ST. Mary’s began countering their run attack. After though a penalty by St. Mary’s, and an offsides call, the Cavs were able to punch one in for a touchdown. 2ND QTR - Spalding was in good field position and moving the ball with ease. It wasn’t long after , QB Brian Snowden Jr completed a passing TD to his tight end. More successful drives ensued and the Cavs entered halftime with a 31-0 lead. 3RD QTR - This is the period where the NEW ERA started to reveal itself. For a couple weeks, MillerFlow has been looking for a team to take a special teams play to the house. Thank you Spalding Cavaliers, as they took it all the way off a squib kick. The excitement erupted all over Whittles. However, with now the clock beginning to run because of the mercy rule, it was some pressure for the Saints to put points on the scoreboard. And they did. Saints scored off a TD run. Awesome stuff. The highlight of the 3rd period was even more compelling. It was QB Snowden on 3rd and 20 under pressure throwing a bomb to up and coming WR Andrew Hall. In what looked like an incomplete pass, some how Hall miraculously caught the pass, leading the Spalding team to another TD. 4TH QTR - This quarter pretty much was another running of the clock as the mercy rule returned. Cavs scored during another end zone strike and secured the victory. SAINTS, do not put your head down. You guys are a good team. You fought to the end. You guys have some dawgs on your squad, continue grinding and doing what you do. More SUCCESS is coming. CAVS, you guys got something special building there off New Cut Road. 🏈🏈 CAVALIER KICKOFF CLASSIC 🆚 Archbishop Hoban Knights vs. Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers Varsity Football. The main event arrived: The first season kickoff game for Archbishop Spalding, A huge crowd appeared, the Rowdy red student section looked to be at full capacity. The anticipation was building. I could barely contain myself being already three hours in filming the previous Cavalier Kickoff Classic game. If you had judged the Cavaliers preseason performance, you wondered were they going to be able to make a stamp early in the MIAA A division, being their former star QB, Malik Washington, wouldn’t be returning to lead the team this season. Getting the Terrapins on track was now Malik’s new focus. The Archbishop Hoban Knights of Akron, Ohio had their own plans: to get a first season victory Maryland’s top notch high school football team. The stage was set, who would be standing tall at 0:00 fourth quarter. GAME RECAP Pregame was flying high, as the teams entered and the loud flares blasted in to the sky. Both teams looked ready for battle. Sizing each of them up, both matched evenly in size. Big Boys on the line, DB’s slender, and QB’s all looked ready for war. In the crowd, someone yelled to MFV to make sure I get Spalding’s freshman QB, Brian Snowden, who interestingly was a freshman starting like Malik in a first big game home opener. Second, both were youth football stars for the Brooklyn Park Broncos. The stage was now set. The first quarter, Cavaliers started with the ball. It wasn’t to long I was screaming, “gooo” watching Brian scramble upfield. Then, they were in the end zone quickly for a touchdown. Not long after, off a mistake by Spalding, Hoban had tied the game. However, Spalding answered back quickly and took the lead by 14. The second, Archbishop Hoban made it down field to score after capitalizing on a roughing-the-kicker penalty. Didn’t stop the Cavaliers and they answered right back with a TD pass. Both defenses put in some work, however Spalding’s clearly held better ground leading in to the half. Let me not gloss over the performance of Snowden. He looked absolutely aware of where to place the football for the receivers to get the best bang for their buck. What seemed to be the longest stretch of time in the game was the third quarter. Starting off, I was filming on the opposite end of the field. I didn’t realize how fast the Spalding defense made quick turnover for a touchdown. Then the loud TOUCHDOWN SPALLLLDDINGGG indicated what had just happened. And more scoring ensued from each team. Also was amazed by the prediction of the Spalding photographers who said a safety was on the horizon. He wasn’t lying, because a few short plays later, SAFETY!!!! The final quarter had arrived and the biggest highlight of that was Brian going in for a QB touchdown to seal the victory. His debut was absolutely excellent. Can’t wait to see more of him. FINAL SCORE KNIGHTS - 28 CAVALIERS - 58 The season is not over for Hoban. You guys keep on shining!!! To the Cavaliers, much to look forward to in the season. Maryland hockey has recently returned to the spotlight after the 2025 NHL Draft. The Carolina Hurricanes selected center Christian Cerrato, a Fallston native, with the 49th overall pick. Cerrato could soon join another recent Maryland player, Patrick Giles, as the state’s hockey talent continues to surge. Cerrato stood out for his strong Big Ten performance as a Penn State rookie. He earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team and had a case for having the best freshman season. Cerrato had the fourth most points, tied for third in assists and won the third most faceoffs across the entire conference. The Athletic ranked NHL teams' needs at center before the draft and described a Hurricanes upgrade as “sorely needed.” Carolina used their second pick in the draft on Cerrato and took him as their top center. Cerrato could make his debut as soon as this upcoming season. Patrick Giles made his start at the Landon School with two seasons of strong play. In 19 career games as a freshman and sophomore, he totalled 34 points and averaged a goal per game. Giles left Landon in 2017 and spent the remainder of his high school career playing for the U.S. National 17U and 18U teams. He played for Boston College for the following four years. Giles made his NHL debut with the Florida Panthers on Oct. 12, 2024 against the Buffalo Sabres. The 25-year-old became the first NHL player born in Maryland since Jeremy Duchesne in 2010. He played nine games for Florida before a midseason trade to the San Jose Sharks. Giles made history when the Panthers won the 2025 Stanley Cup, becoming the first player born in Maryland to play for a championship team. The future of state hockey talent looks even more promising. Archbishop Spalding High School has been a recent source for some of Maryland’s top hockey talent. The Cavaliers had an impressive 19-11-1 record, ranking as the program’s best in the regular season over the last ten years. They entered the MIAA postseason with the potential for three consecutive titles on the line. Mount Saint Joseph High School provided the most challenging test for Archbishop Spalding. The Cavaliers won the first two of four matchups before only scoring three goals in the following two games. Those regular-season struggles in scoring meant the defense would have to be at its best for a championship rematch. Archbishop Spalding goalie Evan Snyder ‘25 stepped up in the biggest game of the season. After a rocky first quarter with both teams tied at two, Snyder became impenetrable with a three-quarter shutout. Archbishop Spalding made MIAA history with a 4-2 win and became the first school to win three consecutive championships since Calvert Hall from 2008 to 2010. Snyder won the MIAA Athlete of the Year award for the A conference and joined teammates Caleb Young, Connor Sweeney and Grant Wanner as Cavalier representatives on the all-conference team. Snyder signed to play in the United States Premier Hockey League on May 21. He joined the Charleston Colonials, a member of the league’s Southeast Division. In the team’s official announcement, head coach Matt Reid described his feelings toward adding Snyder. “We are excited to get Evan into the program, he’s a big goalie and a leader. He’s been on the radar for years,” Reid said. 277 USPHL players have official commitments for the next level of hockey. Destinations range from AHCA programs, NCAA schools and even professional independent leagues. Maryland players are across the country on six different teams.

🥍 🥍 MY LAX FAMILY FACES MY LAX FRIENDS Calvert Hall vs Spalding This game was a game I wanted to see. My alma mater, my HS family takes on a school that has showed themselves friendly to MillerFlow. My family vs my friends!!!! Calvert Hall, my fam, vs Archbishop Spalding, my friends. Game started out with Calvert Hall scoring first, and Spalding answering back. And it looked like the game was going to be a back and forth scoring match. However, my friends established a 3-4pt lead which my family struggled to come back through out the game, even though they had some beautiful scores. Was a good matchup.
