www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqTnx5GusvE 🏀🏀 ROAD TO UMBC MPSSAA 3A BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP 🆚 #6 South River vs #4 Magruder 📍UMBC, Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena 📝 Kmillz (MFVAllSportsNetwork) Our third day of covering at the MPSSAA Basketball Championship in UMBC”s Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena, led us to the 3A Men’s matchup between the 6th seeded South River Seahawks of Edgewater in AA County, and the number 4 seeded Magruder Colonels out of Rockville of Montgomery County. Two programs who fought their way to this finale. The stage was set for these two teams to face off for a shot at raising the glorious state championship plaque.

1ST HALF - The half of setting forth dominance. The tip off was quite quick in what seemed to be headed in the direction of the Colonels, found itself in the Seahawks hands of Northwestern commit, #22 Jaden McDuffie. He quickly shot down the court for a layup. And what started as beginning dominance turned in Magruder’s favor. The Colonel’s took the lead dropping a three and inside run to the basket. The Edgewater team didn’t quit taking over in 2nd period adding 26 points contributed from stars, #24 Jonah Hall, and #1 Jamie Finn. The Hawks lead at the end of the half,, 42-24.

2ND HALF - The half of staying the course. While Magruder made a good attack on the Seahawks lead, even scoring 17 points in the fourth quarter, South River continued keeping its foot on the gas. This effort brought South River’s varsity boys program their first state title, winning the 3A matchup, 67-50. Very impressive victory and good competition between these two.

TO THE COLONELS, although the end result was not desirable, very proud of your unwavering effort You guys are an awesome organization, and be encouraged. Keep shining and striving for the best.
TO THE SEAHAWKS, this victory means the world to us. So glad we could capture some of your earlier games this season and see the events that led to your championship success. Super proud of you, thankful you get to experience now the fruit of your hard labor. KEEP SHINING for the whole athletic world to see. Wishing the Seahawks, the Edgewater community and fans more success in the future. TO BOTH, you guys are great. Do not allow anyone to say less. Keep doing what you’re doing. Thank you for making this game wonderful.

 MFV MVP - South River’s #24 Jonah Hall 24pts, 5 rebounds

South River came up big against a tough Magruder squad in a game that shocked many. From the start, South River brought relentless energy, knocking down tough shots and playing with confidence. One player stood out above the rest—Number 24, who was absolutely shooting the lights out. He led all scorers with 24 points in the biggest game of his season. After the game, he credited his performance to preparation, saying he studied so much film that he knew exactly how to attack Magruder’s defense—and it showed. His effort played a huge role in securing a hard-fought victory for South River. As the final buzzer sounded, the team celebrated in pure joy, hoisting the trophy high above their heads—a moment these boys will never forget.

South River controlled the game from the very beginning and never let their foot off the gas. The Seahawks came out with confidence and immediately found their rhythm on offense, moving the ball well and creating open shots. Each possession seemed to build their momentum even more, and the energy on the court continued to grow as the game went on. Whether it was fast breaks, sharp passing, or knocking down shots from the outside, South River looked comfortable and in control the entire night. The Seahawks’ offense stayed consistent throughout all four quarters. They didn’t slow down after building a lead—instead, they kept pushing the pace and attacking the basket. Their teamwork was on full display, with players finding each other for good looks and taking advantage of scoring opportunities whenever they appeared. Every time Magruder tried to settle in defensively, South River responded with another big play, keeping the pressure high and the crowd energized. On the other hand, Magruder had a difficult time getting anything going offensively. From the start of the game, shots just weren’t falling, and it became clear that they were struggling to find their rhythm. Open looks didn’t convert, and contested shots made it even tougher to put points on the board. As the game progressed, the frustration began to show as Magruder continued searching for answers but couldn’t break through South River’s momentum. The difference between the two teams became more noticeable with each quarter. While South River stayed composed, confident, and aggressive on offense, Magruder continued to battle but couldn’t catch a break. Missed opportunities and cold shooting made it difficult for them to close the gap, allowing the Seahawks to stay comfortably ahead. By the final buzzer, South River’s relentless offense and consistent play told the whole story. The Seahawks never let their momentum fade and proved why they were the stronger team that night, delivering a dominant performance from start to finish while Magruder struggled to keep up.

On any given night for Guilford Park High School, Christopher Wood can electrify the crowd with a high-flying dunk, a smooth pull-up jumper, or a deep three that barely touches the net. Wood has built a reputation as a player who can score from anywhere on the court, but the highlight plays only tell part of the story. Beyond getting highlights, Wood is a hard worker on and off the court. Hustle is the foundation of his game. He knows as he continues to get his energy up, the team will follow. It’s truly admirable to see his work ethic in everything he does as he continues to get better and better at what he does. He goes far beyond a player who plays for himself, he’s a player who knows how to play as a team

www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzQIGeULBLE 🏀🏀 ROAD TO UMBC MPSSAA 3A BOYS STATE SEMIFINAL 🆚 (6) South River vs (2) City 📍New Town HS, Owings Mills, Md 📝 Kmillz (MFVAllSportsNetwork) The day was hot, highs up to 84 degrees. And the gym at New Town High School, even hotter. Yes because of the temps, but also because two 3A giants were about to face off in the MPSSAA State Semifinal. Anne Arundel County’s hot 3A giant, the South River Seahawks and Baltimore City’s hottest, the City College Knights were preparing for war. South River entered with a determination to take their team all the way to UMBC. For City, they were seeking to repeat from their championship victory in 2025. The arena was definitely set for some playoff action.
GAME RECAP

1ST HALF - I think it is safe to say this game was going to be physical. The question seems to linger can a county team handle the fast physical city ball. Well the Knights drew first blood. South River played their game, with #24 Jonah Hall dropping some tres to give the Seahawks the lead. However, the Knights would not let that impeded them, led by their star point guard #0 Rasheed Muhammed, City began to takeover. With a bit of back and forth, the Knights maintained a 4 point lead going in to the half, 28-24. 2ND HALF - South River made a statement, dropping tres and getting some key turnovers by #22 Jaden McDuiffie. It was the Seahawks grit and tenacity which lead them to take lead in this half as well. City faced with a challenge, did not break, and in the final seconds of the 4th period tied the game sending this playoff extravaganza in to overtime, 64-64. OVERTIME - It was City again who jumped out in front. The shiftiness and quick thinking of PG Rasheed made this possible. They were seriously determined to win this game with only allotted 4 mins of time. However, in the ending minutes of the game, momentum switched when guard, #11 Korey Warren, landed a huge corner three. It was at that point South River owned the matchup, adding a few more scores from free throws. The amazing thing about the end, South River immediately went and celebrated their victory with their fans. It truly showed they understood the meaning of championship run. CONGRATULATIONS SEAHAWKS, we couldn’t be more proud of the success you have accomplished. Our hope is that you finish strong. You guys have worked extremely hard. We want to see the fruit of that labor. TO THE KNIGHTS, MUCH LOVE and CONTINUED SUCCESS for you. You guys played with excellence. Proud of the goals and accomplishments you have met. Keep grinding and shining. BOTH OF YOU TEAMS are great.!!!!!

Frederick High School pulled off an impressive win over Marriotts Ridge in the state quarterfinals. Franklin brought the energy and support, refusing to back down from the Mustangs’ home crowd. Family, friends, and even the cheerleaders helped shift the momentum as the boys battled on the court. In the end, Franklin held on for a hard-fought 2-point victory. Overall, it was a great game, with both teams showing determination and fighting until the final buzzer.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFxjks-47pk 🏀🏀 ROAD TO UMBC MPSSAA 3A BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL
 🆚 Frederick vs Marriotts Ridge
📍Marriotts Ridge HS, Marriottsville, Maryland 📝 Kmillz (MFVAllSportsNetwork) MFV arrived to what looked like to be a sold out Mustangs arena at Marriotts Ridge High School in Marriottsville, Maryland. (SHOUTS to CSZScores, as I met their student ambassador. Hope you are successful in your new opportunities on the rise!!!) The cheerleaders for Frederick traveled down to support their Cadets joining alonside a big crowd of Cadets’s fans. BUT, the Mustang fans packed out the house as well. The Marriotts Ridge Student section arrayed in American colors as their theme for the night. It looked like a never ending cycle as the Ridge staff directed numbers of them over to the student section. What I didn’t expect was the intense and loud atmosphere on the horizon. The Cadets team came out clapping and showing they were ready to play 32 minutes of basketball. Mustangs had a cool vibe and the team was rocking some old school warm up uniforms. They looked completely focused and locked in. A huge battled was brewing in the midst of a western Howard County high school. 1ST HALF - The beginning quarter was a knock down drag out fight for some points to get on the board. Both teams displayed excellent defense, causing their offenses to really struggle getting open lanes to drive the ball closer inside for points. By the second quarter things started to pick up as the Mustangs held a fair lead of 7 going in to the half, 23-16. 2ND HALF - The Cadets began to fight back pulling the score between 3 points at one point. HOWEVER, it was last minutes of the 4th period that became critical. After listening to the echoes of loud voices all around, cheerleaders having their own little summersault routine wars, and student sections yelling at one another; this game was decided in the last two minutes being tied at 42-42. The Mustangs had put up quite a fight to stay in front. It was Frederick’s guard, #10 AJ Spencer who scored the final basket, leaving the Ridge only 5 seconds to either tie, or hit a long ranged three for the win. I gave Spencer the name Tricky Fingers, because he was creating critical turnovers leading up to these moments. Marriotts Ridge just didn’t see AJ coming at those pivotal times. CONGRATULATIONS to the FREDERICK CADETS, who pulled off an awesome 44-42 victory, and they advanced on to the Semifinal round in states. SO EXCITED FOR YOU CADETS. Keep that flame burning. MUCH LOVE to the MARRIOTTS RIDGE MUSTANGS, you guys played with fire, intensity, and passion. Proud of you guys. You are awesome. MFV MVP - #10 AJ Spencer, 8 points, and the go-ahead basket in the final seconds of the game.

Seven Howard County teams advanced to the second round of regionals this weekend. The first round of regional games started and finished on Friday across all four MPSSAA classes. Four of the remaining Howard County teams used a first-round bye for an extra week of rest before the intensity of the playoffs ramp up. The other three teams prevailed in matchups against rival county teams. All of the Howard County teams are in the 2A and 3A classes. 2A: Glenelg, Hammond, River Hill Hammond holds the second seed in the West II bracket, standing ahead of the other two remaining teams. The Golden Bears pulled off a thrilling midseason comeback this year, posting an 8-4 record in 2026 after ending 2025 with a 45 record. Their opponent in this second round is the River Hill Hawks. 11-10 River Hill took care of business on Friday with a 65-47 win against 1-19 Wilde Lake. The Hawks will now hit the road to take on Hammond. In their last meeting, the Hawks won late and close in a 56-54 game. The Golden Bears and Hawks face off at 6:00 p.m. tonight. Glenelg are on the other wing of the bracket, coming off their upset win against Long Reach. Three weeks ago on Feb. 5, the Lightning comfortably beat Glenelg at Glenelg in a 67-57 game. The Gladiators appeared to have run out of gas with only one win in their prior eleven games. None of those games finished with a margin less than six points. Glenelg stunned everyone with a 68-62 road win to keep their playoff dreams alive. The path for a Gladiators miracle run will only get harder in the regionals’ second round. Their next opponent is a 12-5 Southern team that remained consistent throughout the entire season. Southern has not ceded an upset loss to a team with a lower winning percentage all season. Glenelg will try to become the story of the MPSSAA playoffs at 6:00 p.m. tonight. 3A: Atholton, Marriotts Ridge, Mt. Hebron, Oakland Mills Marriotts Ridge holds the top seed in North II and earned a first-round bye. Their first playoff opponent is a Franklin High School with momentum. They took down Howard in a thrilling 48-46 showdown, continuing their resurrection from an early-season 1-5 record. Marriotts Ridge will host the second round matchup at 6:00 p.m. tonight. South I number one seed Oakland Mills faces 10-11 Sherwood for its first playoff game. Sherwood routed Reservoir in the first round with a final score of 85-47. The Scorpions will look to bounce back from their county championship loss and regain their momentum for the playoffs. The two teams face off tonight at 6:00 p.m. Across the bracket, Atholton will prepare for a cross-country matchup against Mt. Hebron. The Vikings just secured their closest win of the season against Guilford Park, winning 59-58. They are 6-3 in their last nine and facing an Atholton squad that did not lose a single county game at home. Atholton and Mt. Hebron face off at 6:00 p.m. tonight.

Overlea senior Korrie Foster reached his 1,000th point in his team’s first game of the season against the Towson Generals! The milestone was passed in the second quarter of January 16th’s game, when Foster sank a mid-range shot from the elbow, growing what was already a double-digit lead. This case was different than the three others, as Foster explained he didn’t know in the moment that he reached this coveted threshold. “We didn’t stop the game, I didn’t even know that it had happened. I wasn’t told until senior night against (Patapsco),” Foster said. The playmaker was honored before Overlea’s game against Patapsco on Feb. 9, where the Falcons went on to win by 40 points. That blowout two weeks ago was emblematic of how Overlea’s entire season has played out. After dropping three of their first four games in December, with each of the three loses coming against out-of-county opponents, the Falcons soared towards the top of the county standings, with a 12-3 record as of the Patapsco game. With no more games left on their regular season schedule, the Falcons will go into the postseason in second place in BCPS with a 15-4 record. Foster’s journey to the top of the stat sheet didn’t come easy. Despite being on varsity for all four years, he started off as a quieter player, with his voice truly growing throughout this season. “Freshman year, I wasn’t the main guy, but this year especially I’ve started to be more vocal and picking up my teammates,” he said. Additionally, this is the first year that Foster has played the role of floor general. In past seasons, he has played as a shooting guard, averaging around 20 points per game. This season, as the point guard, MaxPreps shows that that average has increased by ten percent. With this increase and generally improved play, Foster said that, while he is unsure if he has any official offers, he certainly is garnering interest from Goucher College and St. Mary’s College of Maryland, as he explained in an interview. As Korrie and his team prepare to begin the playoffs, with the regional quarterfinals slated to begin this Friday, he feels extremely confident. “I feel great and the team has felt great. We have lots of trust and a strong work ethic.” The highlight of the season was Overlea’s second game against Parkville, when, despite a six point deficit going into the final quarter, the team won by five. Foster also has a lot of confidence in his teammates, especially juniors Daz’mir Giles, Malachi Knowles, and Justin Swanson, as well as his head coach Will Watts, as they will look to defend their high county ranking in the final few weeks of the season. His final message for the fans: “Just stay tuned.”

Every Game. Every Score.
