And the gym at New Town High School, even hotter. Yes because of the temps, but also because two 3A giants were about to face off in the MPSSAA State Semifinal. Anne Arundel County’s hot 3A giant, the South River Seahawks and Baltimore City’s hottest, the City College Knights were preparing for war. South River entered with a determination to take their team all the way to UMBC. For City, they were seeking to repeat from their championship victory in 2025. The arena was definitely set for some playoff action. GAME RECAP 1ST HALF - I think it is safe to say this game was going to be physical. The question seems to linger can a county team handle the fast physical city ball. Well the Knights drew first blood. South River played their game, with #24 Jonah Hall dropping some tres to give the Seahawks the lead. However, the Knights would not let that impeded them, led by their star point guard #0 Rasheed Muhammed, City began to takeover. With a bit of back and forth, the Knights maintained a 4 point lead going in to the half, 28-24. 2ND HALF - South River made a statement, dropping tres and getting some key turnovers by #22 Jaden McDuiffie. It was the Seahawks grit and tenacity which lead them to take lead in this half as well. City faced with a challenge, did not break, and in the final seconds of the 4th period tied the game sending this playoff extravaganza in to overtime, 64-64. OVERTIME - It was City again who jumped out in front. The shiftiness and quick thinking of PG Rasheed made this possible. They were seriously determined to win this game with only allotted 4 mins of time. However, in the ending minutes of the game, momentum switched when guard, #11 Korey Warren, landed a huge corner three. It was at that point South River owned the matchup, adding a few more scores from free throws. The amazing thing about the end, South River immediately went and celebrated their victory with their fans. It truly showed they understood the meaning of championship run. CONGRATULATIONS SEAHAWKS, we couldn’t be more proud of the success you have accomplished. Our hope is that you finish strong. You guys have worked extremely hard. We want to see the fruit of that labor. TO THE KNIGHTS, MUCH LOVE and CONTINUED SUCCESS for you. You guys played with excellence. Proud of the goals and accomplishments you have met. Keep grinding and shining. BOTH OF YOU TEAMS are great.!!!!!

Maryland 3A central region had their indoor track competition on 2/5/26. In the Girls 55m Finals Aubree Lilly from Towson won first place and ran a time of 7.13s. Samantha Amauwa from Franklin placed second and ran a time of 7.18s. Rozelyn Sarfo from Oakland Mills placed third and ran a time of 7.28s. Sarfo also set a personal record for herself and became the new Maryland 33rd place for this event. In the girls Girls 55mH 3A Finals Nyla Lavender from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute won first place and ran a time of 8.54. Lavender set a personal record for herself and became the new Maryland 19th place for this event. Taylor Moorer from Baltimore City College placed second and ran a time of 8.54s. Moorer set a personal record for herself and also became the new Maryland 20th place for this event. Ava Carr from Howard placed in third and ran a time of 8.55s. In the Girls 300m 3A Aubree Lilly from Towson also won first place (she also placed first in the 55m) she ran a time of 39.90s. With this run she gained three accomplishments she set a personal record for herself,became the new United States 75th place, and the new Maryland 14th place for this event.Samantha Amauwa from Franklin placed in second and ran a time of 39.95s. In the Girls 500m 3A Payton Buchanan from Oakland Mills won first place and ran a time of 1:17.37.Trinity Jordan from Franklin placed in second and ran a time of 1:18.00. Brooklynn Murrell from Baltimore City College placed in third and ran a time of 1:18.87. She also set a personal record for herself and became the new 22nd place in Maryland for this event. In the Girls 800m 3A Centennial High School in Howard County dominated the event with their runners coming in first,second, and third place.Kaylee Beal won first place and ran a time of 2:27.03.Beal also set a personal record for herself. Clara Curtis placed in second and ran a time of 2:27.61. Samantha Raker placed in third and ran a time of 2:27.68.Curtis set a personal record for herself as well. In the Girls 1600m 3A Kaylee Beal from Centennial also won first place (she also placed first in the 800m) she ran a time of 5:23.36. City College put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Western as City College made off with a 16-6 victory. The Black Knights have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw Western, too.Brooklynn Murrell was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. Jaydin Muldrow was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.City College was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .552. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .429 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.City College's win bumped their record up to 3-0.

Baltimore City HS defeats Sherwood HS in a 70-61 victory and is now the state champions of the 3A bracket. The game was intense and both teams played their hearts out till the last whistle. Sherwood had a 14 point lead at half time, but were unable to keep the lead in the second half. There were some big performances from both sides. From the City side, the team was led by Omar Smith with 20 points. He also had the most points from both teams. Jordan Hammond also had an outstanding performance with 15 points. From the Sherwood side, Kalel Wilson had an impressive 17 points, who was followed closely by Jamar Nix with 14 points. Overall, both teams had outstanding seasons by making it to the state finals. We shall see what next year has to offer for these two teams!
Despite being down by 14 points at half, Baltimore City College battled back to take the lead and claim the Class 3A boys championship!
