Kaleah Anderson (Glen Burnie) and Chloe Greenway (Oakland Mills) earned MVP honors in a back-and-forth battle. Anderson got things rolling early, knocking down a three to open the scoring—setting the tone for a game full of shot attempts on both sides. A standout from Anne Arundel showed out as well, making a big impact throughout the game. Anne Arundel led 37-29 at the half, but Howard County came out of the break firing, going on a 12-0 run to flip the momentum. Lauer caught fire in the second half, drilling a logo three and following it up with another from the top of the key. Howard County took a 64-60 lead with just over 3 minutes left and held a one-point edge with 30 seconds remaining. But Anne Arundel responded with a clutch bucket to take the lead late. Anne Arundel escapes with a 69-68 win. 🔥

South River (19-7) used a dominant 26-9 second quarter to pull away from Colonel Zadok Magruder 67-50 and capture the MPSSAA Boys 3A State Championship Monday at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena. Jonah Hall dropped 24 points while Jaden McDuffie — the Anne Arundel County Athlete of the Year, added 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals. Two programs who fought their way to this finale. The stage was set for these two teams to face off for a shot at raising the glorious state championship plaque.

 1ST HALF - The half of setting forth dominance. The tip off was quite quick in what seemed to be headed in the direction of the Colonels, found itself in the Seahawks hands of Northwestern commit, #22 Jaden McDuffie. He quickly shot down the court for a layup. And what started as beginning dominance turned in Magruder’s favor. The Colonel’s took the lead dropping a three and inside run to the basket. The Edgewater team didn’t quit taking over in 2nd period adding 26 points contributed from stars, #24 Jonah Hall, and #1 Jamie Finn. The Hawks lead at the end of the half,, 42-24.

 2ND HALF - The half of staying the course. While Magruder made a good attack on the Seahawks lead, even scoring 17 points in the fourth quarter, South River continued keeping its foot on the gas. This effort brought South River’s varsity boys program their first state title, winning the 3A matchup, 67-50. Very impressive victory and good competition between these two. 

 TO THE COLONELS, although the end result was not desirable, very proud of your unwavering effort You guys are an awesome organization, and be encouraged. Keep shining and striving for the best. 
 TO THE SEAHAWKS, this victory means the world to us. So glad we could capture some of your earlier games this season and see the events that led to your championship success. Super proud of you, thankful you get to experience now the fruit of your hard labor. KEEP SHINING for the whole athletic world to see.  MFV MVP - South River’s #24 Jonah Hall 24pts, 5 rebounds

South River came up big against a tough Magruder squad in a game that shocked many. From the start, South River brought relentless energy, knocking down tough shots and playing with confidence. One player stood out above the rest—Number 24, who was absolutely shooting the lights out. He led all scorers with 24 points in the biggest game of his season. After the game, he credited his performance to preparation, saying he studied so much film that he knew exactly how to attack Magruder’s defense—and it showed. His effort played a huge role in securing a hard-fought victory for South River. As the final buzzer sounded, the team celebrated in pure joy, hoisting the trophy high above their heads—a moment these boys will never forget.

South River controlled the game from the very beginning and never let their foot off the gas. The Seahawks came out with confidence and immediately found their rhythm on offense, moving the ball well and creating open shots. Each possession seemed to build their momentum even more, and the energy on the court continued to grow as the game went on. Whether it was fast breaks, sharp passing, or knocking down shots from the outside, South River looked comfortable and in control the entire night. The Seahawks’ offense stayed consistent throughout all four quarters. They didn’t slow down after building a lead—instead, they kept pushing the pace and attacking the basket. Their teamwork was on full display, with players finding each other for good looks and taking advantage of scoring opportunities whenever they appeared. Every time Magruder tried to settle in defensively, South River responded with another big play, keeping the pressure high and the crowd energized. On the other hand, Magruder had a difficult time getting anything going offensively. From the start of the game, shots just weren’t falling, and it became clear that they were struggling to find their rhythm. Open looks didn’t convert, and contested shots made it even tougher to put points on the board. As the game progressed, the frustration began to show as Magruder continued searching for answers but couldn’t break through South River’s momentum. The difference between the two teams became more noticeable with each quarter. While South River stayed composed, confident, and aggressive on offense, Magruder continued to battle but couldn’t catch a break. Missed opportunities and cold shooting made it difficult for them to close the gap, allowing the Seahawks to stay comfortably ahead. By the final buzzer, South River’s relentless offense and consistent play told the whole story. The Seahawks never let their momentum fade and proved why they were the stronger team that night, delivering a dominant performance from start to finish while Magruder struggled to keep up.

And the gym at New Town High School, even hotter. Yes because of the temps, but also because two 3A giants were about to face off in the MPSSAA State Semifinal. Anne Arundel County’s hot 3A giant, the South River Seahawks and Baltimore City’s hottest, the City College Knights were preparing for war. South River entered with a determination to take their team all the way to UMBC. For City, they were seeking to repeat from their championship victory in 2025. The arena was definitely set for some playoff action. 
GAME RECAP

 1ST HALF - I think it is safe to say this game was going to be physical. The question seems to linger can a county team handle the fast physical city ball. Well the Knights drew first blood. South River played their game, with #24 Jonah Hall dropping some tres to give the Seahawks the lead. However, the Knights would not let that impeded them, led by their star point guard #0 Rasheed Muhammed, City began to takeover. With a bit of back and forth, the Knights maintained a 4 point lead going in to the half, 28-24. 2ND HALF - South River made a statement, dropping tres and getting some key turnovers by #22 Jaden McDuiffie. It was the Seahawks grit and tenacity which lead them to take lead in this half as well. City faced with a challenge, did not break, and in the final seconds of the 4th period tied the game sending this playoff extravaganza in to overtime, 64-64. OVERTIME - It was City again who jumped out in front. The shiftiness and quick thinking of PG Rasheed made this possible. They were seriously determined to win this game with only allotted 4 mins of time. However, in the ending minutes of the game, momentum switched when guard, #11 Korey Warren, landed a huge corner three. It was at that point South River owned the matchup, adding a few more scores from free throws. The amazing thing about the end, South River immediately went and celebrated their victory with their fans. It truly showed they understood the meaning of championship run. CONGRATULATIONS SEAHAWKS, we couldn’t be more proud of the success you have accomplished. Our hope is that you finish strong. You guys have worked extremely hard. Each was vying to protect their pristine undefeated records. Both come in unbeaten between county opponents. Meade came 10-0 overall, with key wins over Old Mill, and the Severn School. They’re led by the great coach Michael Glick, star players #0 Keon Scott, #30 Aronoa Soumaoro, and a deep supporting cast. While South River is coached by Darren Hall including stars #24 Jonah Hall, #1 Jamie Finn, #22 Jaden McDuffie, and #11 Korey Warren off the bench. The Seahawks record 7-3, with losses in tournaments and key wins over Old Mill and Southern. 1st quarter - Quarter starts off in a tight defensive game, both teams playing physical barely allowing any points. By the end of the quarter, Meade would lead 13-12. (Scoring leaders ➡️ Keon Scott and #32 Justin Terry) 2nd quarter - Meade would start the quarter off on a 9-3 run with a big 3 by #4 Tyson Hill and a steals from Scott. Other scoring came from the Mustangs underrated bench. However, South River would fight back with scoring from Finn, Warren, and McDuffie pushing the lead to 3 before Scott hit a deep 3 to make the lead, 33-27. 3rd quarter - Quarter would start off with Meade controlling by points from Keon and on the Seahawks side McDuffie. Meade’s 46-44 lead was by two going into the 4th 4th quarter - The match would continue being tight with both teams going back and forth. Meade barely held on but as we approached crunch time, Keon Scott would take over the game and Meade had the score 58-52 with a minute to go . Meade would continue to hold making a couple clutch free throws to ending the game, 61-54 MVF’s Game MVP - #0 Keon Scott with 28 points.

Score would be 14-12 at the end of the period. 2nd quarter - South River would go on a 9-0 run with some fast breaks and a important 3 pointer by #11 Korey Warren. Seahawks continued their run going in to the half, 30-15. 3rd quarter - South River would begin with a 6-0 run. Their defense would keep the Patriots from scoring. More scoring came from Jonah Hall and #22 Jaden McDuffie. The Hawks would end the quarter up, 47-26 4th quarter - Jonah Hall would start off the quarter on fire, with some quick 3 pointers. Keeping the lead extended was Korey Warren hitting a three himself. Old Mill’s #3 Zay Brown would put up more points to keep the Patriots fighting. But the Seahawks would hold on winning 58-42. Bel Air, MD – Bel Air High School will host an exciting Varsity Girls Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, September 20, 2025, beginning at 8:00 a.m. The one-day event will showcase top high school volleyball talent from across Maryland, bringing together eight competitive teams. Hereford took the win over the South River Seahawks yesterday by 38 points. In the first five minutes of the game, 2 turnovers occurred; with one on each side. Although both teams recovered from this with only one interception thrown after this. South River threw the interception and Hereford’s Max DeSantis caught it for a pick-six in the second half. Hereford played very good defensively, giving up few first downs and forcing multiple punts. South Rivers defense was lacking on the outside, multiple sweeps helped Hereford march down the field. One of these sweeps was an over 40 yard touchdown run by Kaden M. Hereford was exceptional on offense in the first half. But after halftime, the only other score Hereford had—was the defensive touchdown. Hereford really slowed down from the first two quarters. Hereford hopes to comeback next Friday (September 19th) and keep their undefeated record against Kenwood High school in their first home game of the season.
