https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TOQ9apiuec 🏀🏀 INSANE High School Basketball Showdown 🔥 🆚 Old Mill vs South River 📍Edgewater, Maryland (South River High School) 📝Zay Millz (MFVAllSportsNetwork) Its was one of the highly antipated matchups in Anne Arundel County between the Old Mill Patriots and the South River Seahawks. Both teams are on top of the standings so this looks to be a good one!!!!! 1st quarter - Game had a slow start with it being 3-3 by mid quarter. Scoring would pick up after some key buckets by the Seahawks #1 Jamie Finn and #24 Jonah Hall. On Old Mill it was #4 Bryce Daughtery. Score would be 14-12 at the end of the period. 2nd quarter - South River would go on a 9-0 run with some fast breaks and a important 3 pointer by #11 Korey Warren. Seahawks continued their run going in to the half, 30-15. 3rd quarter - South River would begin with a 6-0 run. Their defense would keep the Patriots from scoring. More scoring came from Jonah Hall and #22 Jaden McDuffie. The Hawks would end the quarter up, 47-26 4th quarter - Jonah Hall would start off the quarter on fire, with some quick 3 pointers. Keeping the lead extended was Korey Warren hitting a three himself. Old Mill’s #3 Zay Brown would put up more points to keep the Patriots fighting. But the Seahawks would hold on winning 58-42. 🏐🏐 GIRLS VOLLEYBALL SHOWDOWN @ THE EAGLES NEST 🆚 Old Mill x Northeast 📍Northeast Senior High School Had the wonderful privilege of pulling up to Northeast High School to check out the girls varsity volleyball matchup between the Old Mill Patriots and Northeast Eagles. Arrived late during their JV rounds, where the Eagles fought back to win the series 2-1. The Varsity team was looking to continue the victory run since this was their opening home game at the NEST. They were missing three of their starters due to injury, but their spirits were high. Old Mill was seeking to even the score for their JV loss. The stage was definitely set for an elite varsity volleyball battle. Let’s see how this played out: SET 1: PATRIOTS - 25 EAGLES - 19 The Patriots got off to a strong start, scoring points off some defensive stops and aces. Northeast began to gain momentum keeping the match pretty close. Old Mill would go up by two, then Eagles would then tie. It repeated like this until the nearing of 20 points, to which the Patriots separated themselves and won. SET 2: PATRIOTS - 25 EAGLES - 15 This set started out with some of the fans going back and forth in a little friendly chanting banter. The Eagles served first, and they began to establish a good early lead. It wasn’t long that we were right back to the close battles similar to set one. In the end, Old Mill pulled away and won the match. SET 3: PATRIOTS - 25 EAGLES - 16 The Lady Patriots started off pretty strong and gained a sizable lead. Northeast battled back beginning to close the gap on the large point spread. Serving up quick rewarded points to the Eagles, things were looking promising for them. But needing only 1 point to win, Old Mill was able to secure it off a save attempt. Even though the outcome was not favorable for Northeast, these ladies showed absolute resilience. Communication was excellent and they fought well for not having all their starters. Keep shining Eagles. Congrats to the Old Mill Lady Patriots. You guys have an excellent defense. Your spike game unstoppable. Looking forward to seeing the success coming to you in the season. To BOTH teams, keep grinding and putting in the work it takes to be great. Dig, set, spike - that’s right, volleyball is back in Anne Arundel County. As the season is looking to be underway, these are the top ten teams to look out for this season. 1. Broadneck: Last season, Broadneck was ranked first in the Anne Arundel County region according to MaxPreps and advanced to the Class 4A Maryland High School Volleyball Finals, but lost to Richard Montgomery. Almost every game they won, they completely dominated the opposing team, winning in three sets the majority of the time. The Bruins will have Sydney Lawrence, who was named the Capital Gazette Player of the Year, return for them in the fall, alongside Kennedy Smith. Both Lawrence and Smith earned All-Metro Honors at the end of the season. 2. Old Mill: Old Mill became the 3A regional champions in 2024, marking the second consecutive year they have won this title, having also won the 4A title in 2023. However, they had an early exit in the Class 3A Maryland playoffs. This season, the Patriots are losing ten seniors, so it will be interesting to see how they adapt to new players taking the court. 3. Arundel: The Wildcats experienced a decline last season, following a 25-1 record in 2023. Arundel was able to beat Broadneck and Severna Park, but also fell to the two teams above. The good news for them is that Bailey Swinton, who hit 1,000-plus digs last season, will be returning for Arundel in the fall. 4. Severna Park: The Falcons started their season on a five-game winning streak before taking their first loss to Arundel. Severna Park failed to beat Broadneck, Old Mill, and Arundel last season. If they want to improve their standings, they need to be able to compete with the top teams above them in their region. 5. Annapolis: The Panthers have shown improvement in their record from the past two seasons, moving up the standings in 2023 and 2024. Annapolis will have middle hitter Lindsay Lyman return, but lose outside hitter Christen Brisbane, who was named to the 2nd team All-County last season. If they can continue to stay on the upward path of improvement, they have a good chance of securing the top seed in the Anne Arundel region. 6. Severn Run: Last season was the Wolves' first season, as the school had opened in 2024. Within their first season, Severn Run was somewhat inconsistent, going on two or three-game winning streaks, but then dropping a game in between those winning streaks. They also fell to Broadneck twice and Old Mill. To rank them higher, improvement and consistency need to be prioritized in year two. 7. Meade: After starting strong in the beginning of the season, the Mustangs had a tough October, dropping games to Severna Park and Annapolis. Although they showed improvement, they must demonstrate consistency in their wins throughout the entire season to gain ground in their standings. 8. Crofton: The Cardinals took a down year last season. Although they were regional champions last season, they must be able to be reliable and compete with top teams in their region and county. They face teams like Annapolis and Broadneck early in the season, so depending on how the Cardinals fare, that will set the tone and give them an identity for the rest of the season. 9. Archbishop Spalding: Although Spalding is not in the same region as the teams above, they showed slight improvement from the 2023 season. However, they face teams such as Maryvale Prep and Mount de Sales, who stand atop the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland (IAAM). With outside hitter Maddy Mauro and middle blocker Ashlee Overley returning for the Cavaliers, that will give them some depth going into this season. 10. St. Mary’s High School (Annapolis): Like Spalding, St. Mary’s had shown improvement last season. However, like the teams above, they were not able to stay persistent against their competition. That would be something they would have to change to move up the standings in the IAAM.

Came out to Severn Run High School for a varsity LAX game between the Old Mill Patriots and Severn Run Wolves. Severn Run, being a new 3A school in Anne Arundel County, and Old Mill moving to the 3A because some of transitioned to Severn Run; this matchup had good vibes all around. The game was tight in the first half, however in the second Old Mill pulled away with the lead. Great game, hoping to see the further success of these schools.
