🚨 GAME UPDATE: Today’s game has been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances and has been rescheduled for tomorrow at 5:00 PM. If you have already purchased tickets, they will still be valid for tomorrow’s game.
Last Wednesday, the Warriors defeated the well-known Falcons in the MPSSAA 3A/2A East 1 Regional Championship in a statement victory, winning a 28-0 blowout. Both teams shared a 9-2 regular season record, Sherwood being the number one seed with Poolesville right behind them at the second seed. The Warriors dominated both sides of the ball for all forty minutes. They drove down the field with ease, maintaining long drives, and capitalizing off them with points. The offensive masterclass wouldn't be possible without quarterback Cara Farr, who consistently found her two favorite targets, Melanie and Courtney Payne, who both received over 75% of the target share. Receiver Ella Crichton also played an important role in the victory with multiple catches, running drag routes the Falcons' defense simply could not stop. Defensively, Sherwood played lights out, gaining their fifth shut-out of the season thanks to a key interception from Melanie Payne, and a suffocating pass rush that killed Poolesville. Despite Sherwood's apparent dominance, the Falcons' offense consistently moved the ball down the field. They were set up in a goal-to-go situation three times, only to get stopped by the stifling Warrior defense, who showcased a true ¨bend don’t break¨ mentality. With the victory, Sherwood will move on to the 3A/2A state quarterfinals for the first time in program history. The team is set as the seventh seed in the bracket, and will play the second seed Linganore at a time that will be announced later.
