 🆚 Winters Mill vs Manchester Valley 📍Manchester, Maryland 

 GAME RECAP
I was sitting in traffic on a single lane road, with very low patience, hurrying to make JV start of the Winters Mill vs. Manchester Valley double header. I usually arrive in the middle of them playing, only recording the varsity. Well, I made it right about 10 minutes before the start of the first set. Spent part of the warm up setting up my camera etc Thankfully, I was here on a night Manchester Valley High School was hosting its DIG PINK event meant to honor Breast Cancer survivors and bring awareness to the road for a cure.

 My daughter thought it neat MFV wanted to support the cause, so she helped pick out some pink sunglasses and headphones. Got a lot of compliments on it. The mood was being set that a battle was taking place, but in a friendly competitive manner due to the awareness of breast cancer. The opponent, Winters Mill, seemed supportive even though their goal was to come out victorious against the Valley. Let’s see how this competition went down for the teams. 
JV RECAP MATCH WINS: FALCONS - 0 MAVERICKS - 2

This match had MFV on his toes. Both sets, it was the Falcons of Winters Mill dominating the beginning. After having a sizable lead, the Mavericks kicked things in to second gear. Manchester would then find themselves close to closing out the sets, and the Falcons would gain a little momentum. JV Mavs would seal the deal and ended up winning both sets. Here were the scores to the sets for the JV:

Varsity match, it was Manchester Valley dominating 3 of the sets. The combination of setting and hitting seemed to be unstoppable. Also, paying attention to the Falcon’s positioning some times helped them sneak in a hit that went in the opposite direction of where it looked like it was going to go. Also aces on just excellent serving played a vital role to the Mavericks success.

 Set 2, I would be foolish not to mention it. This belonged to Winters Mill. Their domination excelled having some kills that were hard to combat. It was impressive watching them take over this set. Hats off to the FALCONS You guys are excellent. I love your team spirit. You possess a great will to fight to the end. You make Carroll County football competitive. Keep Shining in all you do!!!! (I say this to your JV team as well)

 MAVERICKS, congratulations on the victories for both your teams. You ladies possess something special. Keep supporting one another. I enjoyed your energy, which I could see was high interviewing your setter Carly Figueira. It shows you guys work hard and continue to excel in DMV Volleyball. Always exciting covering you guys.

We came out strong and attacked all night. 20 kills between outside, middle and right side hitters. Score was 25-17, 25-18, 20-25, 25-20

We had too many mistakes against a good team like SC. Lost 16-25, 20-25, 18-25

Down first set 11-2 came back to win 25-17. 2nd set down 12-19 came back to win 26-24. 3rd set won 25-13. Every player contributed

Score: 25-13,2513,26-24. Rowan Dorsey and Abbi matti 12 kills. Taylor Palmer 7 blocks and 7 kills.

Bel Air, MD – Bel Air High School will host an exciting Varsity Girls Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, September 20, 2025, beginning at 8:00 a.m. The one-day event will showcase top high school volleyball talent from across Maryland, bringing together eight competitive teams. The field includes: Atholton (Howard County) Bel Air (Harford County) Good Counsel (Montgomery County) Howard (Howard County) Patterson Mill (Harford County) Roland Park (Baltimore City) South River (Anne Arundel County) Winter Mill (Carroll County) Fans can expect a full day of exciting matchups as these teams compete for the tournament crown. Teams will play a round-robin in pools of four. The top 4 teams will advance to the Gold Bracket, and the bottom 4 teams will advance to a Silver Bracket. Both brackets will be single elimination. South Carroll came back in a reverse sweep!

🏐🏐 GIRLS VOLLEYBALL HOME OPENER SHOWDOWN 🆚 Francis Scott Key x Manchester Valley 
While driving through Carroll County, MFV pulled up to a beautiful scene of a high school nestled a hill, Manchester Valley High School. It wasn’t long ago, I was introduced to this volleyball powerhouse. Had the privilege also of capturing their girls lacrosse team winning a state championship too. The Mavericks wanted their home opener to be a win. Francis Scott Key had road victory in mind. The stage was set for us to capture good varsity girls volleyball highlights. 
 
MATCH 1 - Out the gate, Manchester Valley served up a sizable lead establishing dominance through a few aces and killer spikes. The eagles were able to be rewarded points through critical saves and huge spikes to match the Manchester’s dominant lead. But, Manchester in the end ran away with the first.

 MATCH 2 - I absolutely loved this round. It began with some back and forth between the two. Manchester would lead, then Francis Scott. Francis Scott ahead, and Manchester would tie. As the set advanced in points, Eagles were able to keep their momentum ahead of the Valley. However, the Valley didn’t break and progressed with small comeback. It was cut short as the Eagles earned their final point; the Mavs being within 4.

 MATCHES 3-4 - These rounds followed basically the flow of the first. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the coaches of Francis Scott Key encourage their players along the way. The Eagles put up a good fight. Manchester Valley just remained dominate and obtained victory in the matches.

 Both of these teams have excellent communication. Awareness was great too. Each squad made the matches exciting, especially the second. It’s encouraging to see the fight the Eagles possessed. This will project them to great heights down the line. The Mavericks have something special. There’s no doubt they will be a force to reckoned with in Carroll County. MUCH SUCCESS to the FSK Eagles and the MV Mavericks. Thank you for providing the community with beautiful athletic competition this day.
