After lightning struck three minutes in, the game went into a weather delay. After the delay, the Walkersvile High School Boys Soccer Team came out ready to play in the rainy conditions. Sean Bosco and Gilberth Argueta looked to attack and put the Lions ahead early but were unable to find the back of the net. Walkersville continued to push all half but were denied a goal and took a 0-0 tie into halftime. The Lions looked motivated to start the second half. They looked to attack the Smithsburg backline early and often. They were rewarded 5 minutes into the half when Walkersville was awarded a free kick to the side of the box. Joshua Bolanos stepped up and sent in a beautiful service that found the head of Eli Glickman. Glickman placed the ball into the back of the net to put the Lions on the board. Walkersville wasn’t finished. The lead was extended to two when Cash Moots picked off a pass and sent a shot on goal that spun away from the keeper and found the back of the net. Eli Glickman was back at it again midway through the second half, when he stepped into a one-time finish and blasted the ball past the keeper for his second goal of the night. The whole Walkersville backline was solid from start to finish, limiting the Smithsburg attack all game. Kollin Purgason started the game in goal for the Lions and was not forced to make a save. Brady Barnes stepped into play and was strong in net for Walkersville. Barnes finished with two saves. Walkersville will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Brunswick High School. Tatiana Fernandes scored a hat trick and Natalie Lertora added a goal as Walkersville topped Smithsburg 4-0. Walkersville had assists from Cece Atadika,Leah Atadika and Eva Nalvarte. Goalkeeper Paige Miller had 4 saves for the shutout.

FSK secures the win 4 to 3 and double overtime. Beau O’Donnell led us off with the first goal, and the assist from Camden Alwine. Followed up with another goal by Cooper Sahm with the assist from John Rose. Halftime score was 2-1 FSK. The second half saw the first of 2 goals from Harry Eiwen with the assist by Camden Alwine. The game winner came two minutes into the first OT with a goal from Harry Eiwen with the assist to Paul Adcock. Jose Serrano ended with 5 saves while Smithsburg ended with 16 saves. JV SCORE…. Washington County is home to several of the top public high school baseball programs in Maryland. Clear Spring often dominates the 1A classification, but this season, the Smithsburg Leopards looked to take over the top spot in Western Maryland. After several years of immediate playoff exits, last year’s team upset the Hancock Panthers 12-2 in the regional quarterfinals, but were eliminated by the Clear Spring Blazers in an 11-8 loss in round two. This spring, the Leopards got off to a solid start. Scoring seven runs in each of their first two games, they held a 2-0 record to begin the season, defeating Governor Thomas Johnson on the road in Frederick County and Martinsburg High in West Virginia. In game three, they lost by just two runs to the future 4A state runner-up, Urbana, but then went on to win their next two games. Contrasting last season’s 0-5 start, Smithsburg was 4-1 to begin this season. Despite a loss to Boonsboro in their next game, the team remained hot, winning all of their next four, including two mercy-rule victories and a 13-12 against South Hagerstown. Boasting an abnormally strong 8-2 record, the Leopards headed down I-70 for their first match on the road against Clear Spring. For the first time to this point, the Leopards were mercy-ruled in five innings, getting shut out in the 12-0 loss. Coming off this game, the team bounced back in a big way. Following an 8-5 loss to Boonsboro earlier in the season, Smithsburg took them down 9-8 in the rematch. Sandwiched between two losses to Brunswick, the Leopards had their regular-season rematch against the Blazers. In game two, Smithsburg flipped the script on the Blazers, mercy-ruling their rivals at home in a 12-2 victory. With another victory against Martinsburg to round out their regular season, the Leopards went into the playoffs as the three-seed in the West-II regional. After taking down Hancock 9-1 in the quarterfinals, Smithsburg was set to face Brunswick for the third time this season. After losing most recently 12-1 to the Railroaders, the Leopards traveled to Brunswick and won the game 4-3. Going into the regional championship, Smithsburg had a toss-up match, taking on Clear Spring for the third time in the season. Most recently, the Leopards defeated the Blazers, but Clear Spring won the first match in a shutout. The game wound up mirroring the second match-up. For the first time since 2014, Smithsburg won the regional championship in a 14-3 mercy-rule victory. In their first state playoff appearance in over a decade, the Leopards were not thought of by many as a tough team to beat. Facing sharp skepticism from people throughout Maryland, the team went into their first game on the opposite side of the state in Worcester County, taking on the fifth-seeded Snow Hill Eagles. Shocking many, the Leopards’ offensive successes continued, as they advanced to the state semi-finals, for just the second time in school history, following the 7-1 win. Just a few days later, they matched up against Western Maryland rival and top-seeded Allegany at McCurdy Field. In a hard-fought game, the Leopards’ playoff run came to an end, as they were defeated 6-3 by the future 1A state champion. The season, despite the heartbreaking ending, had many unprecedented highs. Beyond tying the farthest that any team in program history has reached in the playoffs, junior Gavin Ramarge was selected to the Central Maryland Conference’s First All-Conference Team. Additionally, Eli Bowman and Mason Oates were selected to the Second All-Conference Team while Heath Githens and George Mantz were named Honorable Mentions. Beyond the CMC, pitcher/outfielder George Mantz received the Washington County Athletic Association’s Dennis Reeder Award, honoring the top sophomore out of any public school in the county, while head coach Patrick Moore was named the WCAA Coach of the Year. Headlined by three WCAA Silver Slugger Award recipients and four WCAA Gold Glove winners, the Smithsburg Leopards baseball team was named the WCAA Public School Team of the Year. While the season did not end as many had hoped, it was an incredible season nonetheless.

Wednesday April 23rd was Senior Night for the Brunswick Tennis team. 2025 seniors are Matthew Allgaier, Evan Mullen, Simone Acquah, Kylie Shawver, and Demitrius Farley. The match was between Brunswick and Smithsburg with a win for Brunswick. Player Highlights: Lena Butler and Addison Willis both played Singles in Girls Varsity. Coach Zumbach says, "So proud of Addison and Lena in how they handled themselves once again on the court through 2 hour singles matches yesterday and today. They never quit and are living examples of As Long As it Takes, win or lose."

The Walkersville Boys tennis team took on Smithsburg at Smithsburg High School today. The boys were able to secure a 4-1 victory in the windy conditions. The lone lose came at 2nd doubles, Lucas Clifford and Kobe Haggan, dropping their match 2-6 2-6. The 4 wins came at 1st singles, 2nd doubles, 1st doubles and 3rd doubles. Sid Parandapalli was able to win his match at 1st singles, 6-0 6-0. Evan Boledovich was able to win his match at 2nd singles, 6-0 6-0. At 1st doubles, the team of Adi Gujalwar and Lucas Munro was able to close out their match 6-2 6-0. 3rd doubles won due to default. 1st Singles: Parandapalli (W) d. P. Claire McMurry led the scoring with four goals. Ryleigh Batt and Mia Marquart contributed two goals each. Abigail Gover, Mia Ogg, and Isabella Word scored one goal each. Ethel Wright had five saves in goal.

Brunswick boys varsity played Smithsburg boys varsity last night 2/18/25. Brunswick and Smithsburg met during the first game of the season where Brunswick came out on top but it was a close game. Brunswick was looking for the sweep but Smithsburg didn't make it easy going up early. At the end of the first Brunswick was down big(11-2) and Smithsburg was shooting the ball well. The Brunswick bench brought the energy once again and Brunswick started to hit some shots while stopping Smithsburg on the other end. Brunswick fought back thanks to Andrew Jones and Aaron Birney who played great defense but also were scoring some tough buckets. At halftime Brunswick was only down two 17-15. Smithsburg had the momentum though and continued to stay hot in the third advancing their lead. But Brunswick kept hanging in there and was able to take the lead at the end of the third, 27-22. Brunswick started the fourth quarter off hot with a big three from Nick Martinez and they used that momentum to keep going. Smithsburg fought hard and even made it a two point game at one point but Aaron Birney, who is seeming to get hot at the right time, went off, hitting three threes in the fourth to propel Brunswick to a victory,44-40 to sweep Smithsburg. Aaron Birney led the way with 11, points also came from Mark Cooke, Andrew Jones, Mark Yongbi, Jacob Genos, Eli Miller, Nick Martinez, and Jackson Dudley.

Aayana Teasley had 17 pts & 9 rebounds, Addie Boram finished with 15 pts. Nahalya Johnson-Freeman had 10 points.

Brunswick Mens Basketball opened up the season at Smithsburg on Thursday December 5th. Brunswick JV started off the night good with an overtime win against the Leopards. Brunswick JV won 44-39 with 15 of those points coming from Dillon Murphy, who also hit the game tying layup to force overtime. Brunswick Varsity started off hot with most of their points coming from Jackson Dudley(Number 14) who had 10 at halftime. The Leopards fought back but Brunswick pulled away and won the game 56-45. Aaron Birney heated up in the second half for Brunswick and ended up 13 which was right behind Jackson Dudley for the leading scorer at 15. Point also came from Eil Miller with 12, Mark Cooke with 6, Shayne Weingard with 2, Brady Renn with 4, Kahleil Seales with 3, Mark Yongbi with 4, and Jacob Genos with 3. Congratulations to both the JV and Varsity mens basketball teams. Shutout to Brunswick's wrestling and swim team for winning this week as well.

Lady Roaders played Smithsburg Monday, October 22, at 5:30 in Smithsburg’s stadium for the Small Schools CMC Championship. The Roaders won 3-0. Alexa Domathoti (senior) scored two goals, one in each half, leading the second half with one, and her goals were assisted by Layke Jensen (senior) and Makeda Chang (senior). Brylie Jensen (senior) scored the first goal of the second half in the first minute, assisted by Leah Smallwood (junior). Brunswick's defense played outstanding in the win not allowing Smithsburg to push the ball up field. Despite the loss Smithsburg played well and Smithsburgs goalie made some really nice plays to keep more goals off the board for Brunswick. Congratulations to the Lady Roaders.

Winters Mill Girls Lacrosse took another win on senior night over Smithsburg 16-2. Sienna Perryman led the team with 5 goals and 9 assists, Liv Pollard had a hat trick of 3, Reese Ormiston had 2 goals and an assist, Rowan dorsey had 2 goals, 2 assists, and Cece Coco, Riley Dell, Brielle lloyd, and Cate Steinbrenner all added 1 to the mix. Lexi Jackson, Addie Valandingham, and Bente Ver Der Meijdan all had interceptions. Addie Valandingham also had 8 saves in goal.
