A WHITE OUT NIGHT AT AACS 9-8-2026 📝 Karsten Miller (MFVAllSportsNetwork) After witnessing some of what was an awesome championship season last year with the Annapolis Area Christian School Eagles, we at MFV All Sports Network were excited to get a glimpse of how this young vibrant team was doing. Looking at their schedule we noticed they’ve been matching up vs some Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) teams, and their opponent this night was no small foe. The Paul VI Panthers were 2025 WCAC conference champs and fresh off a victory against Good Counsel. So the atmosphere was set for a huge matchup. WHAT WAS GLARINGLY OBVIOUS!!!! The Eagles are still that young team of ladies on fire. They have great hitters and setters, and a wonderful libero controlling those passes and digging. All-around this team is amazing. That’s without say that the Panthers challenged the Eagles on all fronts, even winning a set 25-17. The Paul VI team did a good job exploiting weaknesses in the Eagles defense while AACS rallied back during critical moments in the sets, and eventually won the match 3-1. THE FUTURE What stands ahead is truly bright for the Eagles and the Panthers. Continue grinding and pushing through every limitation of your successes. You all performed with excellent, and was truly proud to witness a great game. MUCH SUCCESS TO THE BOTH OF YOU!!!!! Here are the scores breakdown: VARSITY FINAL: PANTHERS - 1 EAGLES - 3 SET 1: PANTHERS - 14 EAGLES - 25 SET 2: PANTHERS - 23 EAGLES - 25 SET 3: PANTHERS - 25 EAGLES - 17 SET 4: PANTHERS - 27 EAGLES - 29

🏈🏈 CAVALIER KICKOFF CLASSIC GAME 1 🆚 St.Mary’s Ryken vs. Severn School Varsity Football. MFV of MFVAllSportsNetwork heads down to Archbishop Bishop Spalding High School for their annual season opener games, first one being the St. Mary’s Ryken Knights vs Severn School Admirals.

In the first quarter, St. Mary’s moved the ball with east down the field. Them threw a dot of a pass to the receiver in the right corner of the end zone: TOUCHDOWN. Now, it was time for the Admirals to answer back. They unfortunately were unsuccessful.

Second quarter, Ryker’s RB was making some good gaining ground off the run. He punched one in adding to the Knights lead. However, with determination and grit, the Admiral’s put their first points on the board just before the half.

Third and fourth quarters were basically scoring shootouts. Especially in the fourth quarter where both teams scored a combined 28 points. It was the St. Mary’s Ryken Knights who came out on top holding well to their lead. Overall, this was exciting game. Both teams had excellent run games. Passing was top notch as well. Defensively, the Knights were a bit stronger in the first half enabling them to manage their lead in the second. However, the Severn School has a very impressive defense. Wishing the best to each of these schools. Hope to see you all make a good run to the championships in your divisions. FINAL SCORE KNIGHTS - 42 ADMIRALS - 28

When many think of the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC), sports that come to mind are usually basketball or football. However, recently, tennis has shed a little more light. This year, three teams headlined the WCAC Championship for tennis: DeMatha, Bishop Ireton, and Paul IV. Within the past three seasons, DeMatha has secured two WCAC championships, falling short in 2024. DeMatha head coach Mark Dalzell began coaching within the program around 2012, alongside coaching their sister school, Elizabeth Seton. “When I started, we were just trying to get kids interested in high school tennis,” he stated. “Most were focused on junior tournaments.” Dalzell became the head coach of the program in 2019, and during his tenure, he has helped elevate the tennis program. Within the past three seasons, DeMatha has captured its 11th and 12th WCAC titles in the sport of tennis. The year that DeMatha fell short, 2024, is when Bishop Ireton took home the championship, beating DeMatha by 13 points. This season, the Cardinals finished second within the WCAC standings. In the 2025 WCAC Championship, DeMatha won three of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches, totaling 36 points. Paul VI came in second with 23 points. This season, the Panthers fell to both Bishop Ireton and DeMatha in the regular season, before facing them in the WCAC championship. Paul VI placed third within the WCAC standings and second within the WCAC Championship. As these schools continue to expand their programs, some are realizing that the sport of tennis is often overlooked. When asked how tennis can get more recognition across the country, Dalzell stated, “They need to have more national tournaments, or as an individual representing the schools.”

In 2024, the Bishop McNamara boys track and field team narrowly missed the WCAC title, but this year, they were able to redeem themselves in the final event, beating out St. John’s College and Archbishop Carroll. “Last year, we had key individuals, but this year, we had a full team,” stated Head Coach Sonny Hicks. “It took every event, sprints, distance, jumps, relays, and that depth is what made the difference.” This year, Hicks stated that 22 boys competed in this year’s WCAC championship meet. Out of the 22, 17 of them were able to score. “We knew what we had to do coming into this season,” stated Dean Solomon. “Last year gave us the blueprint, and this year, we followed through.” Solomon joined the track and field team in his sophomore year out of interest. After asking Hicks for the schedule, he started preparing and practicing for the upcoming season. His decision to join the team paid off. In his time at Bishop McNamara, Solomon was a part of the 4x800 relay team that broke the Maryland state record for indoor and outdoor track and field. “To go from running 8:10 to breaking the state record, that was surreal,” he stated. According to both the athletes and their coaches, this year’s success stems from a shift in mindset. Many of the athletes maintained discipline throughout the season, working hard day and night during practices. That was evident during the meet, as the winner was decided by the final event: the 4x400 relay. The Mustangs were able to cross the finish line first, giving them the title. This title win was not just a simple victory, but a result of all the growth and hard work that this team put in throughout this season and the seasons before.

It had been 16 years since DeMatha Catholic High School got to hoist the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) lacrosse championship trophy. But the 2025 season changed that. 16 seniors and a new head coach led this team to a 15-7 win over St. Mary’s Ryken, and the WCAC title. “It was such a good feeling to do it with all of my brothers that I’ve been working with for four years,” stated senior attack Matthew Beachley. Beachley, one of the 16 seniors, has been a part of DeMatha lacrosse since his first year. But he and his senior class had not always had it easy. During his time as a Stag, Beachley has experienced coaches coming and going every year. But despite this, he was still committed to staying his senior year because of the bonds he had built with his teammates. “We built such a good relationship from the first day I stepped on campus that I just didn’t want to leave it,” he said. Coach Justin Messersmith arrived to DeMatha after serving as an assistant coach at Broadneck High School, hoping to make a lasting impact in his first season. However, DeMatha's season did not start off as ideal. They began with a 1-3 record, with losses to The Bullis School, St. Mary's Annapolis High School, and Ryken. But after that stretch, things began to turn around for the Stags. "After we lost, we were like, we've got to change something," Beachley explained. "So we all met after the game. Then, the next day at school, we met with the coaches. We knew we had to make a change fast." DeMatha lost just one more game the rest of the season and closed on a dominant nine-game win streak to win the title. The Stags had allowed the fewest goals of any WCAC team. When asked about DeMatha's historic season, Messermith credited the group, touching on the fact that he achieved this milestone with a special group. "The things we accomplished together in just one year are incredibly special and will be remembered at DeMatha for a very long time," stated Messersmith.
