The DMV is a well-represented area when to comes to NFL talent, and the 2024 NFL Draft was no different as three top athletes from Washington, D.C. and Maryland were taken in the first 32 picks. The star of the show, Caleb Williams, went No. 1 overall to the Chicago Bears, making good on his goal to be the best player in his class. The Gonzaga College High School product was the top quarterback in the Class of 2021, attending Oklahoma before following head coach Lincoln Riley to USC to finish his college career. "A big reason is I believe the culture that's been building," Williams said during a Zoom call with Chicago reporters. "I would say the culture, the coaches, and that's where it stems from. Then I'd also say the love and support that the fans have been giving. They're ready, they're hungry, they're all excited, and so are we." Williams' high school teammate, offensive tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu, was selected No. 11 overall by the New York Jets after a trade with the Minnesota Vikings. Fashanu took his talents to Penn State for college, developing into a 6-foot-6, 312-pound star on the edge that is ready to compete in the NFL. Marylander Demeioun "Chop" Robinson rounded out the DMV selections when he was picked No. 21 overall by the Miami Dolphins. The Quince Orchard product started his college career at Maryland before transferring to Penn State. His combination of size (6-foot-2, 254 pounds) and speed (4.48 40-yard dash) will be an immediate boost for the Dolphins and something special for tackles around the league to compete against. The 2024 NFL Draft continues Friday night with rounds two and three, while rounds 4-7 will be held Saturday as many more DMV products hope to hear their name called.
