www.youtube.com/watch?v=__ZQG5rWRcY 🏈🏈 FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS @ CALVERT HALL 🆚 St. Mary’s x Calvert Hall 📍 Towson, Maryland It is always a joy to revisit my alma mater, Calvert Hall. There are many changes that have taking place since graduating from there in 1996. A lot is different except the heart and soul for the love of football (actually all athletic competition). Today, that heart and soul was in the air as I walked on the field. This night was about the seniors, as the Hall celebrated them. The stage was being set for some beautiful football to be played. St. Mary’s was looking to end the Cardinals senior night with a Saints victory on their side. They were on a run after defeating Cardinal’s rival, Loyola, 50-35 the previous week. Calvert Hall was on the same type of energy, having beat MIAA great McDonogh, 28-21. It was going to be interesting to see what went down here. Let’s dive in.

 1ST -3RD QTRs SAINTS - 0 CARDINALS - 0
These quarters of play were pretty much defensive standoffs. Each team had opportunity to march down the field, but because the excellence of defense from both, drives ended in punts or turn-over-on-downs. 4TH QTRS & DOUBLE OVERTIME. SAINTS - 14 CARDINALS - 13
It was in the remaining 2:00 minutes of the fourth, Calvert Hall marched down and scored the first touchdown of the game with about 20 seconds left for St. Mary’s to answer. THIS IS WHEN REAL FOOTBALL is played. Saints went right down to red zone and scored a TD, with only seven seconds left for them to work with. OVERTIME, the first one, the Cardinals stopped the Saints, leaving them the option to attempt field goal, which the Saints missed. With possession, the sky was open for Calvert Hall until a bad snap where St. Mary’s recovered. Another overtime round was now activated. However, Calvert Hall would start with the first possession. Asked a few of the Central County Hurricanes Youth Football team who they thought would win. Some said the Hall, others said St. Mary’s. MFV was rooting for his alma mater, but would not be angry if losing to St. Mary’s because they are a great team I’ve covered. Nothing but love over here.

Calvert Hall scored but received a penalty (unsportsmanlike conduct) which forced the field goal opportunity to be farther back. Cardinal’s missed the extra point giving the Saints now a chance. And St. Mary’s took the opportunity, scored and made the extra point sealing the game with a victory, 14-13.

TO MY CARDINALS, this is was not the desire of your heart. However, remember what your coach said to you at the end. Keep those words locked in your memory. You guys put on an excellent show. I don’t doubt your success. YOU guys walked off that field like grown men even though it hurt. FOREVER PROUD OF YOU, ALL YOUR COACHES, PARENTS and EVERYONE that has stood by you. You guys are great!!!! TO THE SAINTS, I love what you guys are building over there in Annapolis. CONGRATS on the W. Much respect to you guys, you played with excellence. You guys got one great team. Looking forward to your continued SUCCESS as you reach new heights. Definitely was a right move for you all to move up a division.

TO BOTH, keep shining and grinding in this game. Never give up. Hold them heads high and continue being great. Love y’all!!!! MFV MFVAllSportsNetwork

Hailing from Sykesville, Maryland, Bryan Costabile’s lacrosse journey began in backyard battles with his brothers before erupting on the fields of Mount Saint Joseph High School. There, he tallied 149 goals and earned All-American honors, becoming one of the most dominant midfielders in Maryland history. At Notre Dame, Costabile set the program record for goals by a midfielder (42 in 2019) and finished with 99 career goals, ninth all-time for the Irish. Known for his blistering on-the-run shot and off-ball movement, he became a two-way threat and a team leader. Drafted second overall in the 2020 PLL College Draft by the Atlas, Costabile’s pro career has been marked by quiet consistency and explosive potential. In the 2025 PLL Championship, he delivered when it mattered most—scoring the final two goals in a dramatic 14–13 comeback win over Denver, sealing Atlas’ first league title. Costabile’s path is a blueprint for Maryland’s lacrosse elite: humble beginnings, relentless development, and clutch greatness. His journey from MSJ to national champion reminds us why Maryland remains the heart of the lacrosse world.

🏈🏈 A NEW ERA ARISES ON NEW CUT RD
 🆚 St. Mary’s vs. Spalding
📍Severn, Maryland Archbishop Spalding HS GAME RECAP
A new era is on the rise at a catholic high school on New Cut Road,; an era following one started 4 years ago by University of Maryland freshman QB, Malik Washington. This new age was born out of Archbishop Spalding High School. And when we arrived, you could sense we were walking in to greatness.

There was an opponent from another wonderful school in Annapolis looking to stop the new era, the St. Mary’s Saints. They had a serious warmup session, looking confident they could secure a victory on Whittles field. The stage was set, let’s discover how this panned out.
1ST QTR - The Cavaliers won the toss electing to receive the kick in the second half. St. Mary’s returned the opening kickoff with a little trickery, lateral passed the ball to the other returner which got them a little pass the 30.yard line. A penalty on the Cavaliers helped a little but the drive ended in a punt. For the Cavaliers, their drive started well, until ST. Mary’s began countering their run attack. After though a penalty by St. Mary’s, and an offsides call, the Cavs were able to punch one in for a touchdown.

2ND QTR - Spalding was in good field position and moving the ball with ease. It wasn’t long after , QB Brian Snowden Jr completed a passing TD to his tight end. More successful drives ensued and the Cavs entered halftime with a 31-0 lead.

3RD QTR - This is the period where the NEW ERA started to reveal itself. For a couple weeks, MillerFlow has been looking for a team to take a special teams play to the house. Thank you Spalding Cavaliers, as they took it all the way off a squib kick. The excitement erupted all over Whittles. However, with now the clock beginning to run because of the mercy rule, it was some pressure for the Saints to put points on the scoreboard. And they did. Saints scored off a TD run. Awesome stuff.

The highlight of the 3rd period was even more compelling. It was QB Snowden on 3rd and 20 under pressure throwing a bomb to up and coming WR Andrew Hall. In what looked like an incomplete pass, some how Hall miraculously caught the pass, leading the Spalding team to another TD.

4TH QTR - This quarter pretty much was another running of the clock as the mercy rule returned. Cavs scored during another end zone strike and secured the victory.

SAINTS, do not put your head down. You guys are a good team. You fought to the end. You guys have some dawgs on your squad, continue grinding and doing what you do. More SUCCESS is coming. CAVS, you guys got something special building there off New Cut Road. It was been such excitement watching it come in to fruition. Keep grinding and growing!!!! CONGRATS ON THE WIN.

See you all next time on the field!!!

🏈🏈 CAVALIER KICKOFF CLASSIC 🆚 Archbishop Hoban Knights vs. Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers Varsity Football. The main event arrived: The first season kickoff game for Archbishop Spalding, A huge crowd appeared, the Rowdy red student section looked to be at full capacity. The anticipation was building. I could barely contain myself being already three hours in filming the previous Cavalier Kickoff Classic game. If you had judged the Cavaliers preseason performance, you wondered were they going to be able to make a stamp early in the MIAA A division, being their former star QB, Malik Washington, wouldn’t be returning to lead the team this season. Getting the Terrapins on track was now Malik’s new focus. The Archbishop Hoban Knights of Akron, Ohio had their own plans: to get a first season victory Maryland’s top notch high school football team. The stage was set, who would be standing tall at 0:00 fourth quarter.

GAME RECAP Pregame was flying high, as the teams entered and the loud flares blasted in to the sky. Both teams looked ready for battle. Sizing each of them up, both matched evenly in size. Big Boys on the line, DB’s slender, and QB’s all looked ready for war. In the crowd, someone yelled to MFV to make sure I get Spalding’s freshman QB, Brian Snowden, who interestingly was a freshman starting like Malik in a first big game home opener. Second, both were youth football stars for the Brooklyn Park Broncos. The stage was now set.

The first quarter, Cavaliers started with the ball. It wasn’t to long I was screaming, “gooo” watching Brian scramble upfield. Then, they were in the end zone quickly for a touchdown. Not long after, off a mistake by Spalding, Hoban had tied the game. However, Spalding answered back quickly and took the lead by 14. The second, Archbishop Hoban made it down field to score after capitalizing on a roughing-the-kicker penalty. Didn’t stop the Cavaliers and they answered right back with a TD pass. Both defenses put in some work, however Spalding’s clearly held better ground leading in to the half. Let me not gloss over the performance of Snowden. He looked absolutely aware of where to place the football for the receivers to get the best bang for their buck.

What seemed to be the longest stretch of time in the game was the third quarter. Starting off, I was filming on the opposite end of the field. I didn’t realize how fast the Spalding defense made quick turnover for a touchdown. Then the loud TOUCHDOWN SPALLLLDDINGGG indicated what had just happened. And more scoring ensued from each team. Also was amazed by the prediction of the Spalding photographers who said a safety was on the horizon. He wasn’t lying, because a few short plays later, SAFETY!!!! The final quarter had arrived and the biggest highlight of that was Brian going in for a QB touchdown to seal the victory. His debut was absolutely excellent. Can’t wait to see more of him. FINAL SCORE KNIGHTS - 28 CAVALIERS - 58 The season is not over for Hoban. You guys keep on shining!!! To the Cavaliers, much to look forward to in the season. This game is a testament to the exciting games to come. Much success to both to both teams. MillerFlow

🏈🏈 FRIDAY NIGHT GAME OF THE WEEK 🆚 William Penn Charter x Calvert Hall Varsity Football First of all, HUGE THANK YOU to my alma mater, Calvert Hall College High School and varsity football team for allowing media coverage of this highly anticipated game. The Cardinals enter the 2025-26 season with new head coach, Tyler Ward. This game was important in order to set the tone for where the Cardinals want to project themselves. However, the William Penn Charter Quakers, out of Pennsylvania, sought to make that a difficult task. Let’s see how it played out. GAME RECAP Pregame energy for the Hall was on serious high. The Quakers brought some fire too. A little trash talking ensued as one Cardinal player shouted to the oncoming Quakers, “ you’re not in Pennsylvania anymore!!!” Cardinals began to focus in the locker room, as Chief Keef’s song “Love Sosa” amped the team up. Both teams returned to the field ready. First quarter was the trial and error period. Both the Quakers and Cardinals made big defensive stops. Each ironed out first period jitters. Anything not clicking revealed itself quickly here. Quakers ended up scoring on a pass which literally was in the back of the end zone. How the receiver caught that? I don’t know. Now, Coach Ward had to help lead his team with an answer back. That is exactly what happened. A hand off to the Cards RB led the team 64 yard run down to the end zone. This was one game shifter that fueled Calvert Hall with the confidence they could take over. Soon, the defense locked in, and the Cardinals were able to punch in another TD. On my opinion, (and I’ll confess MillerFlow is defense biased) Calvert Hall’s defense took over in the third and fourth quarters. This takes nothing away from the superb QB, excellent run game and awesome O-Line of the Hall. The defense just really locked in. Their quickness to the ball, forced QB pressures, sacks, and two interceptions made a HUGE statement. I was quite impressed with their adjustments in the second half. Overall, Calvert Hall looked great, and this win adds to the number of contenders rising in the MIAA A division. You had St. Mary’s win big, MSJ, McDonogh, and Loyola all looking good. So for the Cardinals team, this 33-7 victory says the Hall is here and ready for the SMOKE. 👀 MFV U📺🔗⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ www.youtube.com/watch?v=xT6Jsk3aK7E

The MLB Draft is coming soon, with festivities split across July 13-14 in Atlanta. The event opens the biggest weekend in baseball alongside the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby. This year, Maryland celebrates 80 years of producing top MLB talent. In 1965, Jim Spencer made history when the California Angels selected the first baseman with the 11th overall pick out of Andover High School, which is now North County High School. Spencer made his major league debut on Sept. 7, 1968, beginning a 15-year career. In 1978, he became the first Maryland high school draftee to win a World Series. 337 players have followed Spencer's lead from schools across the state. Two, Cal Ripken Jr. and Harold Baines, have made the Hall of Fame. Maryland high school draftees have combined for 37 All-Star appearances, 13 Silver Sluggers, nine Gold Gloves, two MVPs, a Rookie of the Year and seven World Series wins. The Chicago White Sox used their No.1 overall pick in 1977 on Harold Baines out of St. Michaels High School. He became the first and only player to be drafted from the school and the only top selection in state history. The White Sox had faith in the then-18-year-old after he hit .532 as a senior and became an All-American first baseman. Baines played for five teams, headlined by the White Sox and the Baltimore Orioles. He debuted on Opening Day in 1980 and dominated the decade, boasting the 5th most RBIs among American League players from 1980 to 1989. Baines is regarded as one of the most clutch players of all time. He is tied for the fourth-most walk-off home runs and the 10th-most grand slams in MLB history. Baines joined the Hall of Fame in 2019 as an inductee of the Today's Game Era Committee. In his induction speech, Baines gave credit to his Maryland upbringing. “From teachers to coaches to town residents who showed me both kindness and discipline, I thank you all for what you have done for me. I cannot ever express enough appreciation for St. Michaels. It still remains my home to this day,” Baines said. In 1993, the town of St. Michaels named Jan. 9 as Harold Baines Day. The White Sox retired his number 3 in honor of their franchise icon. Baines returned to Chicago as a bench coach in 2004 and finally helped bring a World Series back to the South Side in 2005. Most recently, the San Diego Padres selected Lamar King Jr. (Calvert Hall College High School 22) in the 4th round of the 2022 draft. San Diego has made two of the three most recent Maryland high school selections, joined by Jackson Merrill and the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Peter Heubeck. King impressed scouts in his senior season with a .545 batting average and a 1.363 slugging percentage, according to MaxPreps. The catcher had been committed to Georgia Tech before the draft. He ultimately signed for full slot value at the 120th overall pick. King recently won the Minor League Player of the Month award for his June performance. The 21-year-old had a .408 batting average with a 1.084 OPS and 11 doubles in the month. MLB Pipeline ranks King as the Padres’ 29th-best prospect. King now has a chance to follow in his father, Lamar King Sr., a former NFL defensive end, and make it to the pros. The elder King played for Essex High School and the Seattle Seahawks drafted him in the first round of the 1999 NFL draft. In 2025, the legacy of Maryland players could continue with Long Reach High School's Aidan West. MLB lists the shortstop as a top 125 player in the draft class. West could make history for Long Reach as their first draftee and end a three-year drought for Maryland high school talent.

Gavin Sheets, Gilman ‘14, and Jackson Merrill, Severna Park ‘21, play right next to each other in the Padres outfield, but the two lefties took vastly different journeys to reach San Diego. As a Severna Park senior, Jackson Merrill hit an even .500 with a program record of 13 home runs for the Falcons in 2021. MLB Pipeline ranked him as the 79th-best prospect that year. The Padres were highly impressed with his athleticism and drafted him 27th overall in one of the biggest draft day jumps. He became the first player since 2000 to be drafted out of Severna Park. The then-shortstop rocketed through the minor leagues to become a consensus top 15 prospect in baseball before the 2024 season. The Padres challenged him to learn to play center field in early 2024 and push for a spot on the team. Without playing a single game at the Triple-A level, Merrill made the major league roster as the starting centerfielder. The Padres' rookie hit the ground running offensively and finished second in Rookie of the Year voting. Merrill posted the third-most valuable season for a Padres centerfielder in franchise history, according to wins above replacement. He has continued the strong production this season with a .304 batting average and strong defense. Gavin Sheets signed a minor league deal with the Padres on Feb. 9 after a down 2024 with the Chicago White Sox. He made the major league roster after impressing in spring training with six home runs, tied for the MLB lead. Sheets immediately rewarded the team's confidence on Opening Day with a pinch-hit game-tying home run in his first at-bat, fueling the Padres' comeback win against the Atlanta Braves. Gilman Baseball Head Coach Larry Sheets, Gavin’s father and a former MLB player, spoke with CSZ Network and emphasized how the change of scenery unlocked a new level for Gavin. “***'s put him in a great setting in San Diego. The coaches are terrific and they were able to break down his flaws and get him back on the right track…You've got to feel like you're wanted and I think that's the other thing that's going on in San Diego that didn't go on in Chicago,” Coach Sheets said. Sheets made multiple key adjustments to turn the page on his 2024 season. His contact quality improved with a 54.2% hard hit rate, the highest of his career. Sheets also took massive strides against fastballs with a .615 slugging percentage near the top of the league. The 29-year-old has been one of the best hitters in baseball with 12 home runs, 42 RBIs and an .801 OPS. Sheets has also supplied numerous clutch moments for the Padres. He has the fourth most home runs in the National League to tie the game or take the lead. With his breakout success, Sheets could become an All-Star for the first time. No Maryland high school player has made an All-Star Game as a designated hitter since Hall of Famer Harold Baines in 1999. Beyond the accolades, Sheets has already given back to his community. Coach Sheets described how his son’s success impacts the current Gilman roster. “To see somebody come from Gilman, which is a small school…and know that they've been able to make it, I think it just gives you hope. A lot of the kids are excited about watching his progress and I think deep down they feel like ‘well shoot, if he can do it, then you know I can do it as well,’” Coach Sheets said.

Rayuan Lane III graduated from Gilman School 2021, where he was a standout three-sport athlete. In football, he earned All-MIAA honors in 2019 and made headlines by scoring seven touchdowns in just two games during the COVID-shortened 2020 season. Committing to the Navy, Lane made an immediate impact at the collegiate level, starting seven games as a freshman. He recorded 37 tackles, four pass deflections, one interception, and a forced fumble. Over his final three seasons with the Midshipmen, Lane became a cornerstone of the defense, posting at least 65 tackles, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions each year. His consistent performance earned him third-team All-AAC honors in 2023 and first-team All-AAC recognition in 2024. His on-field production and leadership qualities caught the attention of NFL scouts, leading to his selection by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, an impressive feat coming from a military school. Congragulations!
