Report by: Walkersville Head Coach Zach Hommey Linganore HS – The Walkersvile High School Boys Soccer Team were edged out 3-2 on the road tonight (Thu., Sep12) at Linganore High School. The Lions were pushing the pace early. Only 5 minutes into the game, Owen Franz got ahold of the ball from Walter Diaz and blasted a shot past the Linganore keeper to give Walkersville a 1-0 lead. After some back-and-forth play, Linganore got a goal of their own and the score was tied 1-1 at the half. Early in the second half Walkersville earned a free kick. James Stier caught the keeper off his line and placed an early shot over top that came off the goalies’ hands and found the back of the net. Midway through the half, the Lions gave up a free kick in a dangerous area of the field and Linganore capitalized from just outside the box tying the score at 2-2. Walkersville continued to press, creating quality chances on goal, but were denied a go-ahead goal. Late in the half, Linganore found themselves with space in the box and fired a shot into the goal to take the lead. The lions sent numbers forward and kept pushing to get a goal but couldn’t find the back of the net and fell 3-2 in an exciting back-and-forth game. Kollin Purgason did all he could in net to keep the Lions in it. He finished with 10 saves in the game. Photo Credit: Graham Cullen
