With the 2025 boy’s lacrosse season in the books, it’s time now to start looking towards the offseason in Montgomery County. Five teams each won their respective divisions, with one doing so for the first time in its school’s history, while another just continues to dominate. In this article, I will give a brief outlook into the offseason for each division winner, highlighting top players departing/returning, and get an overall feel as to where things stand now and moving forward. I also spoke with the head coaches from each team to get further insight. With that, here is the offseason lookout for Montgomery County Boy’s Lacrosse. The Vikings won their first regional championship in over 15 years with a 14-9 victory over Bethesda Chevy Chase. Their season came to an end in the Class 4A Boys state semifinals against Urbana. This is their third straight season of winning ten or more games. Leading the way were points leader Drew DeLano and goal leader Sean Sanders. DeLano and Sanders each made first team All-County (DeLano also a USA Lacrosse All-Academic), while Tommy Sullivan made second team. Sullivan contributed by scooping up 53 groundballs and by forcing 14 turnovers. Knox Brogan, who led the team in each of those two categories, had 69 and 22 respectively. He also won 65% of his faceoffs, winning a total of 183. DeLano’s 97 points were tied for the entire Montgomery County lead, as were his 44 assists. Sanders’ 57 goals also tied the County lead. Ben Ersek, Lukas Schlotterer, Tommy Gardiner, Liam Plitt, Hopson Mercer, Carter Lowe, and goalie Mark Buckley all made the All-Divison team. Among those names, five of them are graduating with DeLano being the headliner. Buckley is also leaving, who contributed by making 179 saves to the tune of a .639 SV%. Sanders does return however, as does Brogan and Jake Thorner, who won 108 face-offs. Sullivan and Gardiner also return. When talking to head coach Andrew Roswell – who was recognized as the USA Lacrosse Montgomery County Coach of the Year – on how he feels about Sean Sanders and Tommy Sullivan taking the next step in terms of leadership, he stated “I think those guys are more than capable of stepping up… to work to become better players and better leaders.” He also mentions other players like Gardiner and Lowe and has faith in them and the rest of the upperclassmen to further develop their leadership skills. For offseason approach, Roswell says that they will look to go “1-0” in everything that they do beginning this offseason and understand that all they can do is focus on getting better every day. “We felt like we were right there with Urbana in the state semifinal, but [we] will need to work even harder to close that gap.” He also mentions a message that his players wear on their shooting shirts. “Our shooting shirts have ‘WD>WS’ printed on the back of them which means well done is better than well said and our kids will approach the offseason with that mindset.”

On April 23, Walter Johnson took over Einstein stadium in a 7-12 Titan defeat against the Wildcats. The game started with a strong attack demonstrated by the Titans, pushing more upfront towards the middle of the creese. This move was a bold move as a lot of space was left open near the Einstein defense. The Wildcats saw this and took advantage of it after the Titans failed to score from two long shots and allowed the Wildcats to possess the ball. WJ player #11 Henry Dash showed off his speed and scored a powerful long shot goal against Einstein. The Wildcats gained lots of momentum from this goal, with Dash scoring adding one more in the first quarter and with a spin move goal by #13 Gavin Heartz. The quarter ended with a 4-0 Wildcat lead. Entering the 2nd quarter, the Wildcats continued to maintain offensive possession, with Dash leading up to his name and scoring a goal with his speed, securing the hat-trick. The Titans knew they had to reduce this deficit as soon as possible, in which Einstein player #7 Lucien Johnson scored a strong goal into the top corner of the net. Although this would motivate Einstein players, WJ player #37 Owen Struzzerio scored 36 seconds later, making the Titan comeback more difficult. Johnson scored one more goal, along with Titans player #2 Johnathan Windt from an intercepted pass. The strong run ended quickly, after a goal by WJ that barely surpassed the back of the net. The first half ended with a 3-7 WJ lead. Einstein player #5 Dillon Mitchell made sure to boost the Titans morale, scoring an impressive long shot goal from the left side of the field going into the start of the 3rd quarter. The WJ defense standed out the most in this game, with Einstein losing the ball from behind the back stick checks. Mitchell was able to break through this harder WJ defense, scoring a jump shot goal. Despite the lead getting smaller, the Wildcats scored 4 more goals, with most goals being shot at the bottom area of the goalie. The quarter ended 5-11 and not looking good for Einstein. Most players were subbed out in the 4th quarter for the Wildcats as the starters were seen done for the day. Substitutes were in play for WJ with no worries due to the high lead and having the biggest roster in MOCO, with 34 total players. The game remained slow until Einstein player #11 Donovan Carnell and Johnson both scored in the span of minutes, to make the deficit much smaller. Substitute player #37 Owen Struzzerrio scored his first goal off of the bench to end the game 7-12. Einstein drops to 4-4 and will next face Watkins mills while the Wildcats will move to 5-4 and will next face Damascus.
