With the 2025 boy’s lacrosse season in the books, it’s time now to start looking towards the offseason in Montgomery County. Five teams each won their respective divisions, with one doing so for the first time in its school’s history, while another just continues to dominate. In this article, I will give a brief outlook into the offseason for each division winner, highlighting top players departing/returning, and get an overall feel as to where things stand now and moving forward. I also spoke with the head coaches from each team to get further insight. With that, here is the offseason lookout for Montgomery County Boy’s Lacrosse. After posting a 9-5 record this past season, the Jaguars will look to repeat that success despite a larger than usual number of seniors departing. They lose 20 seniors, more than half their roster this past season, and headlining the group is Ephram Choy; an All-County defenseman who scooped 65 groundballs and forced 50 turnovers. Seniors to make the All-Division teams were Patrick Gatham, Jake Hagen, Connor Bunting, Trey Cook, Nate White, Isaac Ginsberg, and Rowan Bunting. Hagen was the team’s leading points scorer with 61 with 30 goals and 31 assists. Gathman was the FOS as he recorded 124 groundballs and had a FO% of 75.5%. And in goal, Calvin Lee (who is also a senior) accounted for seven of the team’s nine wins, making 121 saves to the tune of a .582 SV%. Replacing 20 seniors, as well as replacing nearly every starter seems like an impossible task. For head coach Larry Skiscim, it will be focusing on the basics for the returning core and the young players. They only return seven varsity players which includes six seniors and one junior, with Emet Choy being the only returning varsity player to get significant playing time. Finding leadership will also be crucial, and Skiscim expects Emet to grow into that said role. As for the other returning players, earning that respect will have to be earned overtime by the rest of the team. “It really comes through the players.” he said, “They have to really earn it and be seen as a leader by the team before they’ll be given that respect.” Despite the low number of returning varsity, there were some juniors on JV last year and five players who moved up. So it will be interesting to see how the coaching staff looks to arrange the roster. Skiscim also said that they had a couple of incoming freshmen who play on “high-end” club teams, and hopes that their talent can push some of the older players. In terms of breakout, Skiscim mentioned defenseman Justin Bustamante and FOS Devonte Lynn. Bustamante stands at 6-4 with what Skiscim describes as “long, good stick skills.” He says that he simply needs more playing time, and that playing cub over the summer will certainly help his development. As for Lynn, he is a fast, multi-sport athlete in both football and wrestling. He was injured coming into the year and didn’t get started until midway through the season. “By the end of the season, we started figuring out his strengths.” and subsequently, he got more playing time. He showed his skills as a FOS and as a D-MID. Other players Skiscim mentioned were Keegan Thai, Lucas Natanois, and Dennis Blinder. For the offseason, ten players are participating in clubs throughout the summer, which Skiscim hopes elevates their game. He also runs a lacrosse clinic at the school every Wednesday night, and there’s also strength and conditioning workouts provided by the football and basketball teams two to three times a week. It will be interesting to see how Larry Skiscim and the rest of the staff handles the loss of 20 seniors, but with the amount of rising seniors on JV, players that moved up from JV to varsity, and the underclassmen ready to take the next step, Northwest should feel good.
