The Charles H. Flowers Lady Jaguars rolled past the High Point Eagles 74–11 to improve to 2–0 in the highly competitive 4A league, led by sophomore Audrey Appiah’s breakout 28 points, 16 rebounds and 3 blocks and senior captain Alana Joy’s 14 points, 9 assists and 6 steals as the team’s stifling defense and balanced attack powered the dominant win.

Though not a new sport to our country, it is new for local schools surrounding the DMV, as the NFL seeks to make it apart of athletic competition high schools around the country. The stage was set for both teams as these ladies seem very eager and determined to master this game of flag football. This game kept you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. High Point started with the ball in the first half, making some good plays, relying on the speed and toughness of their offensive attack. Laurel answered by leveraging the quickness of their receivers to the outside. BUT, the grand highlight of this competition was DEFENSE. Their defenses kept both offenses from scoring the entire period of regular regulation play. Both of the 6 points came off of defensive pick 6’s. The first overtime proved to be the same, as both team’s D’s kept one another out of the end zone. The second overtime, Laurel scored a 1pt conversion passing the ball to their center They then stopped the Eagles from completing their one point conversion (NOTE: Teams could have elected to go for 2. It appeared to be wise to remain conservative at this point). TO THE SPARTANS, CONGRATS on the double overtime victory. Proud of you. Celebrate and enjoy it. Continue putting in the hard work. You ladies are no doubt locked in. TO THE EAGLES, keep soaring and flying high. I loved the communication and speed you have on your team. Keep working and achieving success in this beginning season of your sport. Proud of you too. WISHING YOU BOTH much future success on and off the field. MillerFlow MFVAllSportsNetwork
