For the first time since the fall of 2019, No. 24 Berkeley defeated No. 8 Summerville in one of the fiercest rivalry games the lowcountry has to offer. Senior Nate Beaver kicked off the scoring in this game, making a 26-yard chip shot field goal to put the Green Wave ahead 3-0 early. Just two minutes later, Berkeley senior quarterback Henry Rivers responded with a four-yard rushing touchdown to put the Stags ahead. Before the end of the quarter, Rivers scored his second of the game on the ground, giving Berkeley a 13-3 lead after one. The lone score of the second came midway through the quarter on a 32-yard field goal. Summerville recorded a fumble deep in Stags’ territory, but couldn’t get anything out of the chance, and after Berkeley missed a field goal as time expired, the Stags took a 16-3 lead into halftime. Early in the third, LJ Washington scored Berkeley’s third rushing touchdown of the game from 70 yards out. Bryson McGee also had a long run later in the quarter, but Berkeley couldn’t take advantage. Summerville had a scoring chance early in the fourth. With the ball at the Berkely four-yard line, the Green Wave lined up to kick, but junior Chance Coleman blocked the try, giving the ball back to Berkeley. Late in the fourth, junior Rashard Davis put the nail in the coffin with a 46-yard rushing touchdown. That score secured the Stags’ win over rival Summerville with a final score of 29-3. After losing his first career game to Berkeley, Summerville head coach Ian Rafferty and company will look to get back above .500 in a road match against No. 4 James Island. Berkeley will try to stay undefeated in week five in their toughest game of the season at home against No. 1 Northwestern.
