The No. 7 Dorman Cavaliers upset No. 6 Irmo, beating the Yellow Jackets 20-14 at home. Dorman was first to get on the board in this one. In the first quarter, a pile of Dorman defenders collapsed on an Irmo athlete in the end zone, and while it was initially ruled a fumble that was recovered in the field, after deliberations by the referees, it was ruled a safety, giving the Cavaliers an early 2-0 lead. Early in the second, Irmo quarterback Britton Davis found a wide open receiver in the back corner of the end zone, throwing a dime from 32 yards out, making it a 7-2 game. Soon after, the Irmo defense came up big, forcing a fumble deep in Dorman territory. A few plays later on third and six, Davis connected with Jay Eady over the middle, who made several Cavalier linebackers miss on the way to a 23-yard touchdown, making it 14-2 Irmo at the break. Dorman made it a 14-8 game in the third, and later that quarter, junior linebacker Hudson Bowyer forced a fumble, setting up sophomore Javaugn Deck to run it 15 yards for the scoop and score. As the clock hit zero in regulation, the game was tied at 14, sending it to overtime. The Yellow Jackets had a shot at the end zone in their possession, but Cavalier senior Tylan Edwards earned the PBU, forcing Irmo to try a field goal that missed wide. On their offensive possession, senior Nick Means scored from 10 yards out, securing the 20-14 Dorman win. Dorman remains undefeated following the win, rising to 4-0. They’ll look to stay without a loss next Friday at Sumter. Irmo, now 3-2, will have a week to regroup before hosting North Augusta on Oct. 2.
