The Pickens Blue Flame avoided an upset challenge on the road against Palmetto High, beating the Mustangs 45-42. Pickens quarterback Brooks Dow had his lone passing touchdown in the first quarter, connecting with Cam Wilson to put the flame ahead by seven. Quarterback Jordan Jennings responded for Palmetto with an eight-yard rushing touchdown. The Blue Flame scored their first touchdown on the ground before the end of the quarter. At the start of the second, Palmetto’s offense came out firing as Jennings found Logan Newsome for a 26-yard passing touchdown, and soon after, their first rushing touchdown of the game. Pickens scored twice on the ground in the second quarter, and the game went into halftime tied at 28. The Blue Flame scored two rushing touchdowns early in the third quarter to reestablish a two score lead, but the Mustangs responded with a nine-yard rushing touchdown before the end of the quarter. They went on to tie the game early in the fourth on a 34-yard passing touchdown to Peyton Arflin, but a late Pickens field goal sealed their 45-42 victory. Pickens will look to defend their undefeated record in week five at home against Blue Ridge while Palmetto, now 1-3, searches for their second win of the year on the road against Easley.
