No. 5 James Island hosted No. 10 Summerville on Friday, taking down the Green Wave 24-14 at home. The fifth ranked Trojans kicked off the scoring midway through the first as quarterback Brady Dantzler kept it on the ground and found the end zone from two yards out. On their ensuing drive, Summerville’s Jayven Williams found paydirt on a 26-yard rushing touchdown, tying the game at seven. Before the end of the quarter, junior Lamar Lance intercepted a James Island pass, but the Green Wave missed a field goal right before the end of the quarter. The second quarter went scoreless, but Isaac Lorentz put James Island back ahead with a 33-yard field goal. Summerville missed another field goal late in the third, keeping the score at 10-7 going into the fourth. In the fourth, Dantzler connected with junior Charlie Schrecker for a 29-yard receiving touchdown, and a few minutes later, Mykell Warthen scored a two-yard rushing touchdown for the Trojans. Just after the two minute warning, Green Wave quarterback Ethan Dwater connected with Maxwell Grent for a late score, but it wasn’t enough, and James Island stayed undefeated, beating Summerville 24-14. James Island stays undefeated after the win, rising to 4-0. They’ll look to make it five wins next week on the road against Stratford. Summerville drops to 2-3 with the loss, but they’ll have an easier opponent next week, hosting the winless West Ashley Wildcats on Friday night.
