After a nearly three-hour-long weather delay, the No. 2 Dutch Fork Silver Foxes beat the No. 25 Sumter Gamecocks 55-26. Silver Foxes’ quarterback Jaxon Knotts opened the scoring early with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Leek Miller, but a missed PAT kept the score 6-0. Later in the quarter, Knotts ran it in for a two-yard touchdown, making it 13-0. After that touchdown at 9:02 p.m., the lightning delay ensued. The game didn’t resume until 11:45 p.m., when Sumter’s strong ground game got hot. A nine-play, 71-yard drive was capped off by a 13-yard rushing touchdown from Jamarion Witherspoon, who led the Gamecocks with 180 rushing yards. Sumter quarterback Frank Richardson scored his first touchdown of the night on their next drive, capping off a 15-play drive. Before halftime, Knotts and Miller connected again, this time from 37 yards out, giving Dutch Fork a 27-12 lead going into halftime. After the game’s second break, this one being much shorter than the first, both offenses continued to work. Knotts and Miller scored their third touchdown as a duo to round out the third quarter, this one, a 67-yard reception. Sumter and Dutch Fork had a pair of scoring drives to round out the game, and the Silver Foxes came away with a 55-26 win. Knotts finished the game 15/19 with 384 yards and four touchdowns. Eight completions, 236 yards, and three touchdowns were attributed to Leek Miller. Dutch Fork will face the Gray Collegiate Eagles next week while Sumter will look to bounce back at home against the Dorman Cavaliers.
