The Wren Hurricanes upset the No. 23 T.L. Hanna Yellow Jackets 21-14 on the road last week. The ranked Yellow Jackets got off to a strong start. After a fumbled snap on first and goal at the one, Brock Cole struck from three-yards out to give Hanna an early lead. That lead was extended three minutes later as Caden Morrell took a pitch from quarterback William Mayfield 25 yards for their second touchdown. On the ensuing drive, Wren was backed up at their own eight, but senior JoJo Mosley found a gap up the middle, running it in for a 92-yard touchdown to cut Hanna’s lead in half. The Hurricanes tied it up late in the half. With three minutes left on the second quarter clock, junior quarterback Jacob Owings threw a 40 yard dime to Jack Hughes in the back of the end zone to tie the game before half. The next quarter and a half went scoreless. Hanna was threatening with 2:42 left on the clock, but William Mayfield coughed up the ball at Wren’s 26-yard line. Less than a minute later, the Hurricanes moved the ball to the Yellow Jackets’ 26-yard line, setting up Jack Hughes to take a screen pass into the end zone, securing Wren’s 21-14 win. Now on a three-game win streak, Wren will look to keep it rolling next week at home against Southside Christian while Hanna, now 3-1, will host Mauldin as they look to avoid a losing streak.
