Historically a top program within Baltimore County, Hereford High’s baseball team came into 2025 with high expectations to uphold. After last year’s loss in the state quarterfinals, as well as several key departures, including Jack Kinsey, now a pitcher at Marietta College, the Bulls came into the season as hungry as ever. The team got out to a hot start, going 6-0 to begin the season. Within those six games, the Bulls scored double-digit runs in four while taking down rival Dulaney in a tight contest. Sophomore Jameson Greenwood was dubbed Hereford’s player-of-the-game twice in the stretch. While excelling individually, he noted that the team was “feeling great… our mojo was great throughout the year,”. But after this incredible start, Hereford’s team got into a funk. In the next four years, the Bulls went just 1-3, losing to Manchester Valley, Towson, and Century High Schools. Hereford head coach Brad Duvall explained that it was mainly because his squad was just facing “three good teams” while also “playing some different guys trying to develop for the [future] playoff run,”. Hereford battled back from this skid after getting a much-needed reset over spring break. After the week off of regular-season gameplay, the Bulls went on to win several straight games. The team did lose a home rematch against Pikesville 12-5, but still had a 5-1 record after the break. To end the regular season, Hereford lost their final two games; one to Towson, their second loss to the Generals, followed by a loss in a scrimmage against Eastern Tech. In the first round of the regional playoff, the team was set to face a red-hot Randallstown team, coming off upset wins against Pikesville and the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, on the road. Even with Randallstown’s momentum, the Bulls won the game 8-1. After taking down the New Town Titans in the regional championship, Hereford was set to face Baltimore County opponent Eastern Tech. After a touch 11-8 loss to the Mavericks right before the playoffs, Coach Duvall did not seem worried going into the quarterfinal game, explaining that after leading 8-1 in the scrimmage, “we gave our jv guys and some subs a chance to play… it didn’t go well from there,”. Coach DuVall’s changes made a difference in the end as Hereford took down Eastern Tech 4-2 to advance to the state semifinals. Set to take on top-seeded Huntingtown, the Bulls knew they needed to be at their best. Despite fighting hard throughout the game, the Hurricanes, who proved to be the 2A state champions, took down the Bulls 4-2. Despite many bumps in the road, Hereford tied for the farthest that any Baltimore County team reached in the baseball playoffs (Pikesville). With seven seniors departing, including Central Penn College baseball commit Liam Kopajtic and Hocking College baseball commit Leighton Alsip, the Bulls will work to bounce back in hopes of making another run at Bowie in 2026.

On April 22, the 5-6 Pikesville Panthers went on the road to take on the 8-3 Hereford Bulls for the second time this season. Over spring break, Hereford won two games, beating C. Milton Wright 17-7 and Oakdale 9-2. Pikesville lost twice last Wednesday at the XPosure tournament at Blandair Park, losing 8-7 against Marriots Ridge and 12-2 against Northern Calvert. Pikesville got out of the gate quickly in the top of the first, as Kairee Williams drove in the game's first run on an RBI single and advancing to third on an error. One pitch later, he scored at Hereford pitcher Jameson Greenwood threw the ball away on a pickoff attempt. Despite the strong start from the Panthers, Hereford's Kreis Metz answered in the bottom half with a three run homer over the center field fence to give Hereford a one-run lead. In the top of the second, Ian Davis from the Panthers got his second single and first RBI of the day as he drove in Richard Carlton on a base hit to left field. After stealing Davis stole second, Kairee Williams picked up two RBIs on a single to left field. Hereford's Willie DeSantis singled in the bottom half, but it was the only run they got in the frame and the Panthers led 5-4. Neither team scored in the third inning, but Spencer Evans drove in two runs on a bases loaded single into center field. An inning later, Max Levin doubled into right field to drive in Michael Payne, scoring his third run of the game. In the bottom of the frame, Leighton Alsip from the Bulls flew out to center field, but drove in Daniel Metz to get Hereford back to just a four run deficit. Pikesville went down 1-2-3 in the top of the sixth and the Bulls only drew one walk in the bottom half, but in the top of the seventh, Ian Davis picked up his fourth single in five at bats to drive in Pikesville's tenth run of the game. The Bulls intentionally walked Michael Hagan to load the bases once again for Spencer Evans, who doubled to center field, driving in his third and fourth RBIs of the game. Hereford's Daniel and Kreis Metz had hard and deeply hit fly balls into the outfield in the bottom of the seventh, but Pikesville's self-dubbed "No Fly Zone" outfield tracked both down, and the game ended with the Panthers taking down the Bulls 12-5. Pikesville's Isaac Garonzik picked up the win, going 5.2 innings, giving up six hits and five runs while getting five strikeouts on 114 pitches. For Hereford, Jameson Greenwood was dealt the loss as he went 4.0 innings and gave up eight hits, seven runs, and three walks. Special shoutouts go to Ian Davis on the Panthers as he went 4/5 at the plate with 2 RBIs and Spencer Evans who went 2/4 with two doubles and four RBIs and who pitched the last 1.1 innings. For Hereford, Kreis Metz was their top hitter with a three run home run, a walk, and a stolen base. Hereford moves to 8-4 on the season and looks ahead to a match up against the Marriots Ridge Mustangs tomorrow while Pikesville, now .500 on the season, will have tomorrow to prepare for a rematch against the Eastern Tech Mavericks on Thursday. Pikesville pitchers Isaac Garonzik and Spencer Evans are featured in the photo with the scoreboard behind them after the game ended.
