This was actually our first baseball game coverage of the season. We pulled up to Severn Run High School for a baseball match between Chesapeake Cougars and the Severn Run Wolves. The Cougars scored one run in the first, and started spreading the lead between the 4th and 6th Innings. However, Severn Run stood tall and fought to the end. They scored a run although I missed filming. BIG SHOUTS to the COUGARS and WOLVES, much success on the remainder of your season. THANK YOU to WOLVES Athletics for allowing us to film. Enjoy the highlights. #marylandhighschoolsports #millerflowvlogs #baseball #highschoolbaseball

On Saturday, March 22, the Pikesville Panthers traveled into the city to take on the Poly Engineers. Pikesville comes into the matchup with an 0-1 record, following a 9-7 loss at Dulaney while Poly comes in 1-0 after dominating the Forest Park Foresters 21-1, both games happening on Friday afternoon. Pikesville came to the plate swinging early with Ian Davis and Kairee Williams recording hits before an out was recorded, and Spencer Evans driving in a run on a single in the top of the first. Poly kept the game close, but Jakeem McBridge put the Engineers ahead on a two RBI double in the bottom of the third. After a scoreless fourth inning, Pikesville battled back in the top of the fifth. Senior Isaac Garonzik drove in the Panthers' second run as he reached on an error, and senior Spencer Evans drove in two to give Pikesville a 4-3 lead, followed up by Richard Carlton driving in two on a single of his own, putting Pikesville ahead 6-3 after a five run inning. The engineers bats were not discouraged despite the run defecit. Sophomore Henry Overton drove in two runs on a single in the bottom of the fifth, followed up with another RBI double by McBride and a bases loaded walk to put Poly up 7-6 in the bottom of the sixth. Pikesville tied it on an RBI groundout by senior Karron Gamble in the top of the seventh, but Poly sophomore Nathaniel Barry walked off the game on a fly ball single to right field in the bottom of the seventh, giving the engineers the 8-7 win. Nathaniel Barry earned the win for Poly, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up four hits, one walk and three earned runs with six strikeouts. William Holaday was tagged with the loss for Pikesville as he pitched one inning, giving up two hits, a walk, and one earned run. The engineers, now 2-0, look ahead to a match up against the Edmonson-Westside Red Storm and Pikesville move to 0-2 and set their sights on a key match up against the Hereford Bulls, both games happening Monday afternoon.

Nathaniel Barry led the Engineers to a first round victory over a helpless Edgewood team that failed to win a game all season. Poly came into the playoffs with a tough loss against Randallstown, so a rebound against a lower tier opponent gives Poly much needed confidence as they hope to make a deep playoff run. The 10-0 final score will do wonders for the Engineers’ confidence. Nathaniel only gave up two hits and struck out 11 batters. Six runs in the fifth inning blew the game open with multiple errors dooming Edgewood against a team that they couldn’t make mistakes against if they had a chance of winning. Poly will take on Bel Air High on in the 3A semi-final on Saturday. Bel Air was victorious by another 10 run differential against Poly’s bitter rivals City on Thursday. Check out the tournament brackets to see all the matchups as we are right around the corner from finals!

Poly freshman pitcher Nathaniel Barry, a veteran of Roland Park Baseball Leagues Rangers travel squad, held Dunbar hitless through a stellar 5-inning appearance on Friday.

It may be tough to match, but Patterson will look to continue their offensive output against Reginald F Lewis. While new Patterson head coach Joseph Mahach should be pleased with the 19 runs scored against Edmondson, he may be equally displeased with the 15 runs given up by his pitching staff. A total of over 4 runs per inning certainly makes for an entertaining game, but not a sustainable formula for success. Stay in the Zone to see if we get another firework show on the diamond!
