Winston Churchill High School vs Thomas S. Wootton High

Before tip-off, Wootton High School Athletics & Boosters, honored seven seniors with their parents and coaches in the annual "senior night" event. Throughout the first quarter, Wootton Head Coach Erik Graves showcased all seven players. Points were hard to come by, as Churchill rolled to a 26-18 lead going into halftime. Seniors, Shayan Kurup and Jack Sullivan highlighted the first half combining for three baskets beyond the arc (9 points). During halftime, Coach Graves inspired the boys to play at their best, and from the first inbound, Wootton outscored the Bulldogs 13-4, to take the lead (31-30) at the 4:40 mark. That run was punctuated by a 3-point shot by senior Sammy Alexandre. After Alexandre sank two free throws, Wootton pressured Churchill's offense leading to a steal by senior Khairi Hyde. With 22 seconds remaining in the quarter Wootton and Churchill were tied at 39. Wootton forced a defensive stop setting up junior Chase Mitchell's three pointer to close out the quarter with a 42-39 lead. In the 4th quarter, Sullivan sank his third trey of the game. Senior Brendan Famulare hit 3 of 4 free-throws to propel Wootton to victory. Chase Mitchell was the leading scorer for Wootton with 13 points. Famulare had 8 points along with 10 rebounds. Bryan Ngouzo had 7 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Wootton improved to 9-7 overall while Churchill dropped to 5-11. Wootton travels to Walter Johnson on Friday, February 7. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 pm.
