Baltimore County sent six teams to the regional championships in Prince George's county last week, and no division had more BCPS teams than the 4A Central. Six schools made the trip for athletes to compete for a regional title, and here are how the top events went for our schools! Men's 55 Meter: Kenwood's Myles Venable took home gold, finishing in 6.44 seconds. Mark Andrews from Dundalk and Emmanuel Chidi from Parkville were close behind in second and third. Women's 55 Meter: Woodlawn senior Destiny Coleman took home gold in the regional championship, finishing in 6.99. While she was the only one from BCPS in the top three, teammates Anjela Fitzhugh and Za'nyi Robinson placed fourth and fifth Men's 300 Meter: Myles Venable also won gold in the 300, crossing the line in 34.87 seconds. Women's 300 Meter: Destiny Coleman PR'd in this event, taking home gold and finishing in 39.09 seconds. Men's 500 Meter: Jay Williams from Parkville brought home silver, behind Darly Philogene from Springbrook. Williams finished in 67.83 seconds. Women's 500 Meter: Woodlawn's Maritza Sampson set her season best in this regional race while placing second, finishing in 1:19.34. Men's 1600 Meter: Dulaney sophomore Luke Sales took home bronze, finishing in 4:36.82. He will certainly be a name to watch over the next two years in his upperclassman seasons. Women's 1600 Meter: Fellow Lion Catherine Campbell took home second, setting a season best of 5:24.38. Men's 3200 Meter: Dulaney distance runners Chris Martin and Cole Kardian both made the podium, as Martin took gold in 9:55.35 while Kardian won bronze in 10:23.05. Women's 3200 Meter: Catherine Campbell won a gold medal in this race, finishing in 12:14.40, almost forty seconds ahead of teammate Kathryn Delaney who came in the silver medal slot. Men's 55m Hurdles: Dundalk's Brandon Brown Jr. took bronze in the lone hurdle event, crossing the line in 7.80 seconds. Women's 55m Hurdles: Destiny Coleman took the top spot, finishing in 7.79 seconds, while teammate Aurlani Irvin placed second in 8.21. Men's 4x200 Meter Relay: Dundalk's squad consisting of Darryl Reid, Malachi Grooms, Ne'Shaun McCrae-Lee, and Mark Andrews took the third spot, finishing in 1:33.88, a group best. Men's 4x400 Meter Relay: Dulaney's Steven Ijeomah, Ethan Sappe, Michael Ijeomah, and Raymond Johnson took this race's third best time, getting over the line in 3:34.37. Women's 4x400 Meter Relay: Taylor Garrett, Maritza Sampson, Amiya Calderone, and Destiny Coleman took the silver medal in the mid-length race, finishing in 4:04.26. Men's 4x800 Meter Relay: Dulaney's squad took home gold medal in the long-length relay, with Steven Ijeomah, Ethan Sappe, Jeff Ackerman, and Michael Ijeomah beating the silver medalists by six seconds, finishing in 8:20.73. Women's 4x800 Meter Relay: Dulaney's girls squad also hit the podium, with Daniella Takungo, Eve Ellis, Mia Christopher, and Keegan Clarke's 10:51.54 earning them third. 12lb Men's Shot Put: Dulaney's Jeremiah Dailey and Joseph De La Cruz were the event's top two distances, with Dailey taking gold at an even 50', and De La Crus throwing 47' 2.5". 4kg Women's Shot Put: Kimani Dennis, the Dulaney senior, hit from 37' 7.75", earning her the event's top award. Men's High Jump: Rommel Marquez Jr. from Parkville jumped higher than anyone, maxing out at 6'1", followed by teammate Donte Jacobs at 5'10", and Dundalk's Malachi Grooms at 5'8". Women's High Jump: Woodlawn's Riley Streat and Za'nyi Robinson tied for the silver medal, as Streat, a freshman, and Robinson, a sophomore, were both at 5' even. Men's Pole Vault: Dundalk's Ne'Shaun McCrae-Lee and Nilson Fuentes took the gold and silver medal spots at 10'6" and 10' even, while Parkville's Isaiah Tyson came in third, hitting 9'6". Women's Pole Vault: Aurlani Irvin was the county's sole top three finisher, as she tied with Western's Bailey Alexander, jumping 11' even to take home gold!

Last week, BCPS teams met at the Fifth Regiment Armory in Downtown Baltimore for the girls indoor track and field county competition. This article will highlight the top three finishers in each track event as well as the field events. As overall teams, Hereford placed first with 131 total points, followed by Woodlawn with 100 and Dulaney with 39. Congratulations to Hereford for their county championship, but here are the top three finishers in each result from the county competition: Individual Events: 55 Meter: Anjela Fitzhugh set the event's all-time record during this year's competition, finishing in 7.23 seconds to take home the gold medal. Junior Samantha Amauwa took silver, finishing in 7.26 while Woodlawn's Destiny Coleman brought home bronze in 7.34. 300 Meter: Destiny Coleman did win gold in the 300, finishing in 42.38, followed by Western Tech junior Fareedah Egbebi in 43.53 and Woodlawn senior Taylor Garrett in 43.96. 500 Meter: Laylah Ensor brought home a gold medal for Hereford, finishing in 1:19.23, while Maritzah Sampson from Woodlawn and Trinity Jordan from Franklin finished just five hundredths of a second apart in 1:21.74 and 1:21.79, respectively. 800 Meter: The Bulls sent two sophomores, Dempsey Nelson and Kylie Jacobson, to the top of the podium as the pair finished in 2:27.91 and 2:31.24. Catonsville senior Olivia Virago was just seven hundredths behind the silver medalist, completing the race in 2:31.31. 1600 Meter: Nelson also took home the top spot in the 1600m finishing five seconds ahead of the silver medalist, with a time of 5:21.55. Maren Blanks from Carver finished in 5:26.91 while Charlie Brill, another Hereford Bull, finished in 5:27.67. 3200 Meter: Dempsey Nelson in 11:54.77 and Charlie Brill in 12:02.69 were the event's top two finishers, closely followed by Maren Blanks in 12:03.6. 55 Meter Hurdles: Woodlawn athletes took all three podium places in their signature event, as senior Destiny Coleman took the top spot in 8.33 seconds, followed by junior Aurlani Irvin in 8.52 and senior Anjela Fitzhugh in 8.83. Team Events: 4x200 Meter Relay: Hereford's Laylah Ensor, Caden Bennis, Riley Boerner, and Olivia Clark took home gold in the first relay event, finishing in 1:52.93. Dulaney came in second, as Kennedi Johnson, Naya Edwards, Rachel Bowers, and Kaila Hill finished in 1:54.91. Western Tech took the bronze spot, as Fareedah Egbebi, Farrah Nunley, Chelsea Williams, and Makiyah Simms wrapped up the podium in 1:56.3. 4x400 Meter Relay: The Bulls sent the same team into the 4x400, who also took this event's top spot by just fifteen hundredths of a second, finishing in 4:20.52. Woodlawn's Leenehn Teah, Taylor Garrett, Anjela Fitzhugh, and Destiny Coleman were close behind at 4:20.67, while Eastern Tech took third in 4:36.07 with a team consisting of Cayden Wilson, Sybella Wass, Salome Ibenana, and Kailey Prisco. 4x800 Meter Relay: This event finished Hereford's clean sweep of the top prizes in relays, this team consisting of Isabella DeSantis, Juliette Verderaime, Ana Laura Tosi, and Kylie Jacobson who ran the 3200 total meters in 10:36.16. Franklin came in second, as Keveah Wallace, Teegan Clingan, Trinity Jordan, and Nora Tromble finished in 10:46.85, while Towson's Katherine Lohse, Elaina Razon-Fernandez, Lilyann Richard, and Eleanor Lohse ran it in 10:51.35. Field Events: Shot Put: Kimani Dennis, a senior from Dulaney, won the shotput in a landslide, throwing 36'8.5". Dundalk's' Cori Thompson and Parkville's Gabrielle Richards threw 29'8" and 29' respectively, taking the bronze and silver spots. High Jump: Eliza Fox from Hereford placed at the top, jumping 5'2", while Sparrows Point sophomore Julie Roberts and Woodlawn freshman Riley Streat both jumped 5' even, taking the other two podium places. Pole Vault: Aurlani Irvin won this event for Woodlawn, as the junior jumped 11'. Hereford athletes took the other two spots, as senior Maddie Drylie jumped 10'6", while sophomore Belinda Wines jumped an even 8'.

Woodlawn played down a player

The undermanned Titans of New Town fought the Woodlawn Warriors to a final score of 5 to 5. With timely goals from Elgin Guthrie and Tyler Burris and hard defense from Kennedy, Chris, and Aryaehl the Titans started their season off strong and can only get better as the season goes on. Woodlawn is to be commended for their aggressive scoring ability and we wish them well on the rest of their season. Asst. Coach Dunn - New Town Allied Team.

Cross country teams from across the county traveled to the Center for Maryland Agriculture for the county championship on October 18. Three seniors took the top three spots with Hereford's Sylvia Snider finishing in first wtih 20:04.82, Alexandra Lohse from Towson in second with 20:29.08, and Towson's Cecilia Van Lierop coming in third with 20:39.88. The Towson Generals took first place overall with 28 points, followed by the Hereford Bulls in second with 41 and the Dulaney Lions in third with 73. Teams from across Baltimore County traveled to the Center for Maryland Agriculture on October 18th for the county championship. In the men's 5K, Theodore Brown, a senior from Towson, took first place finishing in 16:47.21. Second place went to junior Oliver Katz from Dulaney with a time of 17:02.35. The bronze medal went to another Towson senior, John Fields, finishing in 17:10.96. The Towson Generals took first place with 31, followed by the Catonsville Comets with 61, and the Dulaney Lions with 63. Hereford wins the boys’ championship with the hurdle and field events being their advantage in the competition on Thursday. The Warriors wiped the girls’ side of the competition with a 40-point gap between them and second place, where the Hereford girls outpointed the boys. Woodlawn was just that overpowering, winning all but one of the meter relays and all off the sprints. Congratulations to both programs for a great competition and an excellent season!
