The Huskies won 47-40. The Huskies led at the half, 30-28. Senior Rylie Madsen and sophomore Sophia Marchena each had 14 points in the win. Very nice effort by the entire team on the defensive end of the floor. The Huskies improve to 7-1 on the season and travel to Manchester Valley on January 6th. -Jeffrey Burrows

City College put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Western as City College made off with a 16-6 victory. The Black Knights have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw Western, too.Brooklynn Murrell was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. Jaydin Muldrow was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.City College was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .552. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .429 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.City College's win bumped their record up to 3-0.

The 4-Seed Western Doves from Baltimore City traveled to the University of Maryland to take on the 6-Seed North Point Eagles in the 4A Girls Basketball State Championship on Friday night. The Doves came into this game after upsetting the top-seed Flowers Jaguars 53-49 while the Eagles are coming in following a dominating upset of their own against 2-Seed Clarksburg, where they won 56-39. North Point got off to a hot start in this game, not conceding a point in the first seven minutes of the contest. While the offense peeled back a little in the second quarter, the Eagles still took a 17-10 lead into halftime. North Point head coach Michael Serpone explained that the message to the team in the locker room was to "Keep playing North Point ball". Several members of the team explained that they were not concerned about the narrow lead as they were focused on the long game. That proved to be true, as North Point game out of the locker room on fire, scoring 20 points in the first six minutes of the second half, and 29 in the third quarter combined. After the game, Doves head coach Tasha Townsend explained that her team was trying to mount a comeback too quickly, and the game simply slipped out of reach. The Eagles' offense slowed down in the fourth quarter, but the Doves could not come back. With a final score of 61-30, the North Point Eagles were crowned state champions. Congratulations to both teams on the milestone of reaching this game.

The Digital Harbor Rams and the Western Doves proved that they deserve to move on to State after two consecutive wins at the Relay Championships in April and the City Championships last Friday. Western extended the margin they won by in April, a clear cut above the rest with 217 points. Just like the Relay Championships, it took record setting times for the Rams to come away with a tight victory. Trent Johnson, LaMont Johnson, Jevonte Williams, and Jawon Blue showed out by achieving the third fastest time in the 4x200 relay. Several other top 10 times were set in several other events by Harbor, Mervo, and Dunbar. Congratulations luck to the Rams and the Doves for fantastic seasons!

The Western Doves took over the Relay Championships on Wednesday winning every single relay event! The team's total score of 96 was well ahead of second-place City. Special shoutout to Kiri Mitchell, Shanaya Wallace, Jayla Green, and Mackenzie Jones, as their 4 x 200 time placed them 3rd for the entire state in that event for 2024.
