The Cougars fell short to the Tigers Thursday night in the Regional Championship saying farewell to their impactful seniors such as Brooke Bolesta with over 1000 career points and Phaedra Michaelides who was a defensive threat the whole season. Congrats to the Cougars for a fantastic season!

The Cougars were led by Maura Lawall, who finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists, followed by Brooke Bolesta with 12 points and 14 rebounds.Additionally, Marisa Dixon and Phae Michaelides each chipped in 6 points, while Andrea Dorezas added 4 points and an impressive 15 rebounds.

Rising Sun High School teacher Steven Marlin will step into a new role this fall as the Tigers’ new athletic director. He spoke with CSZ Network to share what the community can expect from his name at the top of the department. The University of Delaware graduate first worked as a Pennsylvania middle school teacher before 2020. After the COVID-19 pandemic, Marlin decided to move back closer to home to continue teaching. He explains how Rising Sun stuck out as the ideal option. “Growing up, not joking, 100 feet from the Cecil County border, I knew that I would like to settle somewhere in the county, and when offered an opportunity to teach at Rising Sun High School in 2021, I jumped on it,” Marlin said. Teaching at a high school for the first time offered Marlin new challenges and experiences. He explained how he found ways to join the Rising Sun community and how it brought him toward athletics. “In the last four years, I got involved in any extracurricular I could to support the students and athletes of RSHS, specifically leading the Student Council and coaching in our baseball program,” Marlin said. Rising Sun baseball has seen firsthand the impact Marlin can have on school athletics. After going 15-20 since 2023, the Tigers soared in 2025 with a 10-6 record and an MPSSAA playoff appearance. Rising Sun won multiple playoff games before a loss in the third regional game. Marlin concurrently earned a master’s degree in school leadership from Wilmington University, while he stepped into impactful roles at Rising Sun. The classroom teacher’s shift to athletics may appear surprising to some, but he knew this would always be a desirable path. Marlin described his athletic background and the value of school support. “Growing up, I was obsessed with all things athletic. I played baseball and if I wasn’t on the field or in the cage, I was consuming some sort of baseball or sports media. In conjunction, I was blessed to have amazing coaches, teachers and parents that placed an emphasis on how skills and lessons learned between the lines would translate into the real world,” Marlin said. Marlin plans to use his coaching experience to guide his transition to athletic director. He listed the most critical priorities in building a strong athletic culture for Rising Sun students. “Tradition, dedication, phenomenal coaches and support. Everyone at RSHS, in the community and beyond, places a ton of emphasis on ensuring that our student athletes can be the best they can be on the field, in the classroom and community,” Marlin said. Marlin shared his goals for Rising Sun athletics and what an ideal school year would look like. “Our student athletes can achieve their full potential on the field and in the classroom. There are also a few spots in our trophy case and on our banners that I wouldn’t mind adding onto,” Marlin said. For the 2025-2026 school year, multiple Rising Sun teams stick out as top contenders. The Girls’ Varsity Basketball team posted a 16-4 regular season record and Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse went 8-3. Marlin shared another team he is particularly excited to watch this year. “Our wrestling program is second to none and I look forward to seeing our student athletes continue to accumulate wins on the mat. But, any RSHS athletic event is worth coming out to see,” Marlin said. Marlin reiterated his excitement for next year and expressed his appreciation for Rising Sun beyond the school’s walls. “Ten years ago, if someone had told me I would be the Athletic Director at RSHS, I would have probably said they were nuts. But to have the chance to continue to work in a school and community I love to support their athletics program is one I’m honored to have,” Marlin said.

It came down to the wire on Wednesday, as North Harford Varsity Hawks grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 3-2, over RSHS Tigers. North Harford Varsity Hawks were down 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Jackson Armiger doubled, scoring three runs. Both teams were strong on the hill. North Harford Varsity Hawks pitchers struck out eight, while RSHS Tigers sat down 12. RSHS Tigers opened the scoring in the first after Ethan Burchard hit a solo home run to left field. Matt Hart earned the win for North Harford Varsity Hawks. The starter gave up six hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out eight and walking two. Wyatt McDowell took the loss for RSHS Tigers. The starter went six and two-thirds innings, surrendering three runs on zero hits, striking out 12 and walking six. Armiger went 1-for-4 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Sean Ellis paced North Harford Varsity Hawks with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Zackhary VanDyke set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading RSHS Tigers with three hits in four at bats. McDowell and Burchard were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for RSHS Tigers.

t was a big day for Junior, Kevin Hardisky. With a win and get in scenario for the final spot in the UCBAC playoffs, down 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Hardisky woke us up in the bottom of the second inning with a 350+ Homerun to left field to tie the game at 3. John Teal followed that with a triple of his own. Teal would score on the next pitch by a Frankie Culotta rbi squeeze to make it 4-3. We would go on to plate 3 more runs that inning for a 7 spot. Rising Sun responded with 2 in the top of the third to make it 7-5 but we were able to answer with two more of our own in the bottom of the third. Eight of our 9 batters recorded a hit in this one. Tre McInnes had 3 rbi’s, Brycen Hunter had 2 and Hardisky with the big day added 5. It was only fitting with two out in the bottom of the fifth and the ending run at third base, that Hardisky was in the spot to end the game and he delivered with an RBI line drive to center to walk it off. Brycen Hunter gets the win and Peter Weber gets the save.
