Last season, there were many teams within Prince George’s county that excelled within boys soccer. As the season is approaching in the coming days, this is how the top teams fare going into the season. 1. Crossland: Last season, Crossland was first in their region and had the highest win percentage last season. The Cavaliers have Douglas Zelaya returning for them, who scored five goals (fourth in his region), tallied nine goals, and had 19 total points. 2. Potomac: Despite having the seventh-best region percentage according to MaxPreps, Potomac was able to advance far in the playoffs, win close games, and compete with teams such as Fairmont Heights, even beating Crossland to end their season. They went on a five-game win streak last season. The Wolverines have a few returners coming back this season. 3. International High School at Largo: Ranked second within their region according to MaxPreps, the International High School of Largo comfortably won against teams in their area. They will also have Alexis Hernandez back, who was second in the region in goals with eight last season. 4. Oxon Hill: Last season, the Clippers were unable to beat teams such as International High School at Largo and Potomac; however, they were able to make it to the regional semifinals. Going into this season, if the Clippers want to advance further, they have to win important games against 2A and 3A squads. 5. Fairmont Heights: The Hornets had made significant improvements from the 2023-2024 season, winning 11 games last year, advancing far in the Class 2A 2024 Maryland High School Boys Soccer Playoffs, and securing wins against Potomac twice, as well as keeping a close match against Crossland. If they can carry that momentum into this season, then they have a fair chance to go even farther within the Class 2A conference. 6. Bowie: Although Bowie was solid this past season and pretty much had a better winning percentage than the teams above, they not only faced teams outside of Prince George’s County 1A/2A/3A, but also dominated teams in there that only won four or fewer games during the season. Not to say their wins were not good, but their competition was lighter than that of the previous schools mentioned. This upcoming season, they will face numerous teams within Montgomery and Charles counties, as well as the number one team in the 1A/2A/3A region, Crossland. 7. Northwestern: Northwestern advanced all the way to the regional semifinals last season in the Class 4A playoffs. Like Bowie, the previous season, they blew out teams within their region, such as Wise, Laurel, and Flowers, but were able to score sometimes eight or ten goals. If the Wildcats can bring the energy they had last season, they could compete well with teams across the 4A class. 8. Parkdale: The Panthers were a little inconsistent early last season, going on win streaks that would last for around two games, then dropping the next one. However, they kept a steady momentum towards the end of the season and during the 4A Class playoffs. 9. High Point:I n many games last season, High Point was unable to score more than four goals, except when they went against Wise. If they want to improve in the coming season, the Eagles will need to learn how to score early, rather than getting shut out. 10. Gwynn Park: The Yellowjackets were able to end their season on a six-game winning streak; however, they ultimately dropped their last two games. But Gwynn Park will have Jonathan Vargas returning, who scored five goals and ten points last season.

Forfeit
It took overtime for the Sanford boys team to defeat Potomac 66-62, where the Warriors had to overcome a 12 point deficit in the fourth quarter to send the game to Ot. The girls didn't take it that far as Sanford made a game-winner with three seconds left in regulation to beat St. Mary's 46-44
Crossland took a 2-0 lead with a goal from sophomore Emily Alverez. Potomac then scored a huge 30 yard goal from Isabella Moreira.
Potomac varsity football is set to make a deep run in 2024-2025. After defeating Thomas Stone and Gwynn Park in the playoffs, Potomac fell to a tough Milford Mill Academy squad in the semifinals. After finishing last season 8-4 overall and 6-1 in the region, the Wolverines bring back lots of talent and experience from last year. There is lots to be excited about as Potomac was able to rattle off four straight wins on two separate occasions in 2023-2024.
