Maryville High School

Maryville High School is located in Maryville, Tennessee. This school’s football program has a long history of excellence. They hold the title for the most state championships, runners-up, and appearances in playoffs in the entire state of Tennessee, all while competing in the biggest classification in the state. With 18 state championship titles, this level of success is an expectation of this program. However, last season took a turn from the Maryville tradition of excellence. For the first time in over 20 years, the team did not make it to the final four of the playoffs. Last years’ Maryville team was filled with unexpected injuries and a “lack of depth”, head coach Derek Hunt states. But this year, he is looking to turn things around. When asked about what he is excited for in this upcoming season Hunt explains, “Trying to prove the critics wrong who think Maryville’s run is over.” If anyone can prove critics wrong, it would be Derek Hunt. Hunt, an alumnus of the Maryville High School football program himself, was the first head coach in school history to win a state championship in their first season. There is a great amount of pressure on this team to do well this year. Everyone in the Maryville community has a great sense of pride in the football teams’ success. All eyes are going to be on Hunt and his team to see if they can return to the schools’ tradition of winning.
