Knoxville West High School

The girls’ soccer team at Knoxville West High School located in Knoxville, Tennessee is preparing for a defining season this fall. Advancing all the way to a substate game last year and losing a game that they “probably should not have lost”, according to head coach Roberto Castro, this year they are looking to take their talents one step further, to a state tournament. Knoxville West is a member of one of the toughest districts in the entire state of Tennessee for girls’ soccer. This district is referred to as the “District of Death” in the state. Some of the toughest schools in this district include Bearden High School, Maryville High School, Farragut High School, and Hardin Valley High School. All these schools have made runs in the state tournament in the past and have won state and national championships. However, Knoxville West’s biggest obstacles for this season may lie within the team itself. Castro explains how his team graduated six senior starters, suffered four season ending injuries, and has had several other players picked up smaller injuries in preseason training. Castro is still very hopeful for this season. The culture that this program has is one that he enjoys being apart of. This team has a lot of heart and pride in the sport, and he is hoping they channel that and play for each other to find success in the 2024 season.
