On December 23rd the M&D Winter HS Showcase took place. Teams throughout the state competed in field and track events. 32 schools competed in total. On the girls side Hereford HS in Baltimore County won by a landslide with 73 points. Hereford had high placements in almost all events. Olivia Clark 4th place in the 400m winning 5 points. Kylie Jacobson 3rd place in the 800m winning 6 points. Dempsey Nelson 2nd place 8 points and Charlie Brill 3rd place 6 points in the 1 mile. Eliza Fox 3rd place in the high jump earning 6 points.Maddie Drylie 2nd place earning 8 points and Belinda Wines 6th place earning 3 points. Hereford’s relays did amazing, 1st place in the girls 4x400 and 2nd place in both the 4x200 and 4x800. Congratulations to Hereford for their landslide win! 2nd place was Northwest in Montgomery County 41.5 points. 3rd place was Broadneck in Anne Arundel County 40 points. 4th place was Howard in Howard County 36 points 5th place was Governor Thomas Johnson in Frederick County 33 points. On the boys side Northwest HS in Montgomery County won with a total of 62 points. William Rivers 7th place in the 60m earning 2 points. Nathaniel Hewitt 5th place earning 4 points and Jayden Vongprachanh-Nelson 6th place earning 3 points in the 60m hurdles. Christopher Davis 8tn place in the 200m earning 1 point. Tyler Hall 1st place in the 400m earning 10 points. Richard Harris 2nd place in the 800m earning 8 points. Paul Ryoo 4th place in the long jump earning 5 points. Jayden Vongprachanh-Nelson 2nd place earning 8 points and Yao Ballogou 4th place earning 5 points in the triple jump. 1st place in the 4x400 earning 10 points and 3rd place in the 4x800 earning 6 points. OMGGGG you guys. I literally cannot breathe right now. My hands are shaking so bad typing this. I just witnessed the most INSANE moment of my entire LIFE and I HAVE to word vomit it all out right now or I will actually explode. So. You all know I have season tickets. Row 12, right behind the home dugout. I see everything. But NOTHING could have prepared me for what happened tonight. It was the 89th minute. The game was tied 1-1. The energy was so tense, you could feel it in your teeth. And then... it happened. Josh Ventura gets the ball just past the halfway line. He starts running. And when I say running, I don't mean normal running. It was like he was gliding. The way he weaved through those two defenders... it was like they were moving in slow motion. My bestie Sarah literally GRABBED my arm and her nails are now permanently embedded in my skin, I don't even care. He gets to the edge of the box and this HUGE defender comes sliding in. It was a surefire foul. A penalty. But Josh... HE DIDN'T GO DOWN. I SWEAR ON MY LIFE. He just... jumped. But not a normal jump. He did this like, little hop and the ball just stuck to his foot. It was magic. ACTUAL MAGIC. He was in the air for like, a full three seconds, I'm not exaggerating. Time literally stopped. I could see the little specks of dirt flying up around his cleats. And then... the shot. It wasn't a kick. It was a whisper. It was so quiet. The ball just... curled. It curled like a rainbow, but faster than anything I've ever seen. It went around the goalie. Not over him. AROUND him. Like it had a mind of its own. The net didn't even ripple, it just sort of... accepted the ball. Like it was always meant to be there. There was this one second of complete, dead silence. Everyone's brains had to reboot. We all just saw the impossible. AND THEN THE STADIUM WENT ABSOLUTELY NUCLEAR. I WAS SCREAMING. SARAH WAS SCREAMING. The guy next to me who is usually so quiet was PICKING ME UP AND SHAKING ME. I was literally being hugged by strangers. It was pure, unfiltered chaos and it was BEAUTIFUL. And Josh? He just turned around. Didn't even smile. Just looked at the crowd with this calm, intense look in his eyes, like he knew it was going to happen all along. He just tapped his chest twice and pointed to the sky. THAT'S IT. I'M DECEASED. My phone is blowing up. My timeline is going insane. Everyone is posting the clip. I've already watched it back 47 times and it makes less sense every time. HOW DID HE DO THAT? Josh Ventura didn't just score a goal tonight. He created art. He bent reality. I will be telling my grandchildren about this. I am not okay. I will never be okay again. brb gonna go watch the replay 48 more times and sob. 😭💫⚽

By: Zach Hommey The Lions fell to TJ, 3-0, in the second game of the 2025 Central Maryland Soccer Showdown hosted by Frederick High School. Frederick HS – The Walkersville High School Boys Soccer Team was locked in a battle from the first whistle. Despite creating chances in the first half, the Lions were unable to find the back of the net. The Thomas Johnson attack was able to get in behind twice and capitalized. Walkersville came out with energy in the second half, looking to press against the TJ backline. The Lions couldn’t find a goal to change the game and ultimately fell to TJ 3-0. Kollin Purgason did all he could in net for the Lions, finishing with 8 saves in the game. The Lions are back in action Tuesday night when they take on Liberty High School.
