Chesapeake Math and IT girls’ soccer faced adversity this past season and was not able to see the results they were used to in previous years. CMIT won the regional championships and quarterfinals in 2021 and 2022, along with going to the state finals in 2021. The Tigers were, however, able to secure some good wins, including beating Frederick Douglas High School twice in the 2023 season, 7-0 the first round and 4-0 the second. CMIT will be losing five seniors but are looking to gain new talent during their tryouts this week from August 14th to 16th. The team is excited to see who is able to step up and help them move forward in a positive direction. The team motto that the CMIT Tigers preach is #CLIMB. This insinuates always looking forward and working to be better. The team is looking to embody this mentality this 2024 fall season. Photo from: Instagram (@cmitwsoccer)

With 5 losses by 2 runs or less since the beginning of April, Patterson Mill head coach Matt Roseland had to find what was missing to help his team turn around these close games. With four straight victories and a chance to play in the 1A state final, something has clicked with the Huskies that led the team to be the only 8 seed to win their state quarterfinal matchup. Pitching seems to have become an identity for the team, allowing 1 run or less in three of their four victories. Timely hitting and not limiting away free bases via walks and defensive errors has forced opponents to earn every run. The Huskies have found a repeatable formula that if it continues, could lead to a run that will live long in Patterson Mill memory. Check out the tournament brackets in the Zone for all of tomorrow's matchups!
