Walkersville got goals from Natalie Lertora and Tatiana Fernandes to get by a scrappy Catoctin side. Goals were assisted by Cece Atadika and Isabel Vanderau. Goalkeeper Paige Miller was in net for the shutout.

Yesterday afternoon, Mardela did the impossible in beating out Catoctin in the 1A Softball State Finals. Mardela was down 3-0 in the 4th inning, but the girls didn’t give up and put up a massive performance to complete the comeback. They would secure their win in the last play of the 7th inning, making the final run to finish off the game. Both teams played their hearts out yesterday. Shoutout to Taylor Smith, Ava Twilley, and Julia Wisk for putting up big performances for their teams yesterday. Congratulations to Mardela on their massive win! We shall see if they can do it again next season!

It was senior day for the boys of the Walkersville tennis team. 14 seniors were celebrated today, Sid, Adi, Evan, Henry, Jordan, Jimmy, Lukas, Lucas, Landon, Jeremy, Kobe, Brayden, Ryan, Conner and Mark. The boys were able to win their match against Catoctin, 5-0. At 1st Singles, Sid Parandapalli won his match 6-0 6-1. 2nd Singles was a default victory. The team of Adi Gujalwar and Conner Gearhart won their match at 1st doubles, 4-6 6-1 10-8. Brunswick boys varsity played Catoctin boys varsity basketball last Friday in the regional quarter-finals. These two teams had met twice earlier in the season where Brunswick had come out on top both times. But this is the playoffs, and anything can happen. Brunswick was feeling confident though as they have beaten Catoctin twice. Larry Brown, who is Brunswick head coach had said that Brunswick was going to compete with whoever, and whenever, but they needed to sharpen up their offense. "We're going to work on some of our weaknesses on the offensive side of the ball. We need to find a way to shoot the ball more in a more consistent way(Brown)." The first quarter started and Catoctin took an early lead and went up 8-0 quick. Brunswick fought though scoring 10 unanswered points with Jacob Genos starting out hot for Brunswick scoring four of those 10. Aaron Birney also was hot hitting a three in the first. Brunswick played good defense while dominating down low to take the lead 17-12 at the end of the first. Aaron Birney started off the second quarter hot hitting another three, while the combo of Mark Cooke and Andrew Jones down low was too much for Catoctin. All night long Andrew was getting rebounds, blocking, and scoring for Brunswick, which was nice to see because Andrew is a junior and will be back playing at Brunswick next year. Catoctin battled but Brunswick couldn't seem to miss, and hit from everywhere on the court. This is where Brunswick took over and never looked back. The score at halftime was 36-19, Brunswick. In the third Aaron Birney took over and hit almost every shot he took, he had 14 to end the third but hit two more threes to end the night with 20. Almost everyone scored for Brunswick, it was a dominating win and was only really close in the first quarter. Aaron Birney led the team in scoring with 20, points also came from Jackson Dudley, Jacob Genos, Andrew Jones, Kalehil seals, Brady Renn, Eli Miller, Mark Cooke, Nick Martinez, Mark Yongbi, and Jason Kitterage. The final score was Brunswick 76-Catoctin 48.

Walkersville used a 25-8 3rd quarter run and went on to 67-40 victory. The Lions were led by Dylan White who finished with 10 points. Trevor Pfeil added 15 points and 15 rebounds and AK Whitby posted a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. James Stier finished with 10 points

The Lions were pushing the play all first half, creating many chances on goal, but the score remained 0-0 for much of the half. That all changed when Sean Bosco sent a conrer kick into the box that found the head of Henry Van Orden who powered the ball into the goal to get the scoring started. A few minutes later, Jefri Arevalo slotted a ball into the feet of James Stier who calmly sent it into the back of the net to give Walkersville a 2-0 lead at halftime. The Lions turned it up in the second half finding an early goal when Sean Bosco picked off the Catoctin defense and finished into the bottom corner. The scoring didn’t stop there. After a corner kick for Walkersville was not cleared, Evan Boledovic was ready and hammered a header goal home to extend the lead. James Stier rounded out the scoring, tallying his second on the night, when he received a pass from Drew Albertson and buried a shot past the keeper. The Walkersville defense was fantastic all night long not allowing goalkeeper Kollin Purgason to face a single shot on goal.
