Noah Lyles, from Alexandria City High School, competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics this summer for Team USA. Lyles ran a personal best in the men’s 100m track and field event, earning gold with a time of 9.79. Adding another medal to his resume, Lyles earned a bronze in the track and field men’s 200m event with a 19.70 time. Set to compete again in the men’s 4x100 relay final, Lyles tested positive for COVID-19 and was unable to participate. The team then had to disqualify from the race, due to a poor handoff in the event. As the Olympics came to an end, Lyles added, “I couldn’t have been more proud to be a part of this team. Every time we ran, the expectation was taken to a new level. We flew past expectations; we were grabbing medals that nobody thought we would take.” The USA Track and Field team leaves the Paris 2024 Olympics with lots to be proud of.
